Hello! I'm a rising senior and I plan on taking the GRE in October. I've been doing research on GRE prep books but can't seem to find the right one. The area that I am most concerned about is Math. I definitely need a book that focuses on the Math portion. Also, I am easily distracted (ADD) and need to find a book that is really easy to read. Finally, I am not taking the test online so I rather avoid online practice tests. What did you use to study for the GRE? Which books do you recommend?

Hi! I feel your pain about the Math section – it’s a weakness of mine too. I’d highly recommend the Princeton Review Math Workout book. They write explanations in an easy to understand and engaging way. It’s generally said that Princeton Review problems are easier than the GRE test itself, so I think it’s a good start and refresher on the math concepts. I know you said that you’d rather not test online, but I’ve also been using Magoosh ($100 for access to a ton of math and verbal questions). The best part is that they have video explanations to each of the questions, and if that still doesn’t fully explain the concept, you can email the instructors and they answer back pretty quickly! They also offer 3 online practice tests. It’s been a really fun way to study (reviews both basics and more challenging problems). Good luck!

Hello!

I would suggest you to go for Manhattan GRE books. Most of their books have been written as if the author is talking to the reader and the experience is quite similar to that in a tutorial class. I agree with Denisec26 too. Magoosh have some pretty nice material as well though I would still prefer using Manhattan for polishing concepts and use Magoosh for practicing them. (Source: I used both prep books and scored 332: 170Q, 162V, 5.0 AWA)

Cheers!
