Hey guys, my first post on this forums, hope you go easy on me :D

OK i'm going to get straight to the point, i'm currently undergoing National Service in Singapore, as a Police Coast Guard. I didn't do too well for my A levels here and i want to study in Canada ( decent chance that i'd be moving there after my service ).

I've got 14 months on my hands to study while undergoing my service ( part-time ).

Will it be a good idea for me to take SAT's? Sitting as a private candidate for A levels is a lot more expensive and time consuming.

Do Univerisites like U of T or McGill care whether you'll be applying using SAT's or A levels (+ the O levels i took previously of course)?

I emailed McGill the other day and didn't get a clear answer.. but what they did highlight was that they don't give a damn about co-curricular stuff or recommendation letters which is a shame because i work hard as National Serviceman here and all the recommendation i could get from top ranking Police Officers ( my supervisors, trainers etc. ) will become useless.. I also have actively participated in sports throughout my years in school, even now..

Does the same apply for UofT too? Is it the case with all univeristies in Canada?

I am really prepared to work hard, i'm just trying to decide what my next step should be, taking SAT's in May/June and applying straight away thereafter or taking my A levels and waiting a longer time (till next Feb) to be able to apply...

Cheers guys looking forward to your response :)

I wonder how your O-level grades stack up against American GPAs, though.

McGill Desautels: 1950+ (650-650-650 or better) on the SAT/29+ on the ACT/AAB with one of the As being in math (GCE standards)
McGill Arts: 1950+ (650-650-650 or better) on the SAT/29+ on the ACT/AAB (no subject restriction; GCE standards)
U Toronto Rotman: 1950+ on the SAT/29+ on the ACT; Cs on Singaporean H2-level tests
U Toronto (humanities): 1850+ on the SAT/27+ on the ACT; they say successful applicants rank among the top third in local A-levels, which amount to getting Cs on Singaporean, H2-level tests

Do you think good O levels grades stacked up with the SAT scores you listed could get me into those courses without having to retake my A levels? Not that i want to run away from it but if there’s a possibility that it could be done then i could just focus time and effort wholly on the SAT’s instead…
