What would happen if I ignore the fines from the library?

I just realized I got fined and was kind of mad to myself because yes, I forgot about the time they were due, but I went online and check the due date for the books I checked out. Three copies were due at some certain time. I assumed that one of them was mine and thought that there were only three copies available. I returned the books before the due time. Turned out the list must have been longer, so I still returned them late. But I was so close... I wonder what would happen if I simply ignore the fine? This is my last quarter here in UCSD and I'm kind of upset now. I tried so hard not to be careless but to no avail.

“Your library account may be temporarily suspended for non-payment of library bills. Unpaid library bills are assigned to a collection agency. Future registration and access to transcripts may be blocked if library bills are not paid.”

At my school, they’ll withhold your diploma if you don’t pay up.

Just pay it up or appeal. Don’t ignore it.

Ignoring your problems doesn’t make them go away, and don’t cry over spilt milk.

Man, sometimes the cliches say it all.

Definitely appeal. I used to get parking citations all the time at UCB and would appeal. They’d lower them, bless their little black hearts, and the librarians may, too. But yes, deal. Do not ignore. They have you over a barrel with your transcripts and diploma. (You’ve been at UC this long and don’t know this?) ;)
