What would I do?

I had two top schools, Middlesex and Deerfield.

I got into Middlesex.

Waitlisted at Deerfield.

However, my admissions officer had really liked me so, curious as to why I got WLed, I called her. She said it was because I was a rising junior, they needed softball players (or whatever it was they needed) and not rowers/runners. Alright, being wait listed hurts a lot less when put in those terms. She DID say I was high enough on the WL to revisit, and I'm doing so informally tomorrow. I may get in on some classes, etc. We've been working on this for two weeks, and I'm pretty excited.

There's just one problem. Deerfield had been my favorite school....until Saturday. Then, I visited Middlesex. Now, I loved Middlesex but it's sort of an unfair chance for DA because one of my best friends goes to MX. I got to hang out with her and her friends, etc.

I'm afraid that tomorrow I'll get there and my admissions officer will say "You're in." (They're discussing the WL today and tomorrow). Then I'd have to make an immediate choice. I've heard some bad things about DA recently, but I want to give it a fair chance.

I know DA is technically/traditionally the better school, but according to prepreview.com it's #2 and MX is #5. Big difference....not really. Anyways, it's more about the fit, etc etc. Plus I would say MX is on the rise with the new Headmistress, Head of Admissions, and head of College Counseling.

At our MX revisit, my family met manymany people who were dissatisfied with DA and liked MX much much better.

However, before getting accepted into MX I was basically gung-ho Deerfield. I wanted to paint my door green.

I just don't know what I would do! Help?

I would wait and see how you feel after your revisit to Deerfield. They will not make you decide on the spot if they offer you admission (I would imagine you will have a day or so).
You are right to recognize that your revisit at MX was influenced by your friends.
You would certainly find folks at Deerfield who were dissatisfied with MX and liked DA better.
You may find that you visit Deerfield and you still feel MX is the best. You may find you original feelings about Deerfield to be reaffirmed and you’ll be off to the paint store.

Good luck.

How did your visit at Deerfield go? What did you decide (I’m thinking MX based on your other posts)?

My revisit to Deerfield was excellent. I had a really sweet host. However, I’m a sports/theater/singing type of girl, and I discovered that you can’t do everything at DA, whereas you can at MX. Also, while at MX I found out interesting info about DA from people who had other children there. Now, I know this information may not apply to all but it was interesting nonetheless. Overall, I got a better feel at MX, although I loved DA as well. I took myself off the DA waitlist and overnighted my MX contract though, and now when my friends say “I can’t wait for summer!” i say “I can’t wait for school to start!”
:)

ahh! me too! I can NOT wait for school to start!

You are right risingjunior, at Deerfield you have to make more choices than at some other schools. Theater takes the place of a sport - you can’t do both.
Sounds like you made a good decision for you and it’s good that you were able to go to the Deerfield visit - now you are more sure about Middlesex.
Good luck!

tanyoosha- Isn’t it so exciting? Now when I get bored I think “What can I do involving MX? I can’t pack yet…oh I know! I’ll get the pictures I want in my room on a disk!”

Linda S- Yes, it definitely confirmed my love of MX. Where is your S (I think it’s an S as opposed to a D) going?

deerfield seems like a great school…

It is a great school. Just not for me.

Scratch that. Suffice it to say that Middlesex and deerfield are both great schools. I have a D who is a senior at MX and she absolutely loves the school. Yes, because Mx is a smaller school there are opportunities abound. Good Luck to you at Middlesex.
