What would it take for an international....

to get into UMich? (stats-wise)

My ECs are pretty good and I should get good recs, etc. So, what kind of SAT I and GPA/rank, etc. would I be looking at to be a 'lock' for UMich, if that is possible as an international.

Look at my 'location' for where I'm from :P

Its hard for international students to get in. To be a ‘lock’ you would need a 2400 and 4.0 with good ecs. To be a match I would say 2100 and 3.9 with good ecs.

^Are there any stats or anything that are available that have the international admit rate?

Also, if 2100 is a match, what is a ‘high match’? Basically, what kind of stats/GPA would I need to have an excellent shot at UMich? (To the extent that if I were rejected you would be quite surprised). I know I could just go add up the 75th percentile scores but I don’t know if that is even good enough as an international.

Also, when would be the best time to send in my app. to UMich? Should I just apply EA? UMich doesn’t need SAT IIs but would it be foolish to apply with only an SAT I as an international, albeit Canadian? I would take MathIIC in November and should score 780+, but would help me at all or is a good SAT I enough? I want to get in for sure so I don’t want to jeopardize my chances…

Does UMich view Canadians as domestic (or essentially domestic) when it comes to decisions? (Would it be easier for a Canadian to get in over an international from a diff. country?)

I would be applying as a Chem/Bio/hard science major if that helps you inform me at all…

I’m also interested in this anyone?

To be a “strong match”, I would say a 2200+ on the SAT with a 3.9+ unweighed GPA taking a challenging high school curriculum. Applying EA is a given of course. Michigan accepts very few international students after the EA deadline.

Finally, submitting SAT II scores does not hurt, but it does not help much either.

^OK, so basically I don’t even have the option of SAT IIs if EA is essentially a must. UMich does not accept RUSHED scores, so is the October SAT fine? Would I not have to rush this score to UMich to meet the EA deadline? (Oct. 9th is the test day)

Does UMich view Canadians as international or a sort of domestic student? I’m asking because I know on the Canadian boards people have mentioned that Princeton puts Canadian applicants in the ‘Northeast’ domestic pile and views them accordingly.

So, does UMich sort of give Canadians an advantage over other internationals?

Also, how many internationals are admitted to UMich, on average, per year? What kind of stats do these students usually have (if you know)?

I’m not sure but i believe that Oct scores should be fine? As they are released before the deadline and once you have the scores you can send a score report straight away? and that would be a few days before the deadline.

Applying EA, International Student. I think if I posted my ‘stats’ it would give you all a better understanding of what I bring to the table and what my chances are at UMich. UMich is my no.1 choice and Denard Robinson is my hero. :P

**Will try to visit. Does UMich consider if you visited or not in their decision?

If you get that 2200+ I think you would be a match for Michigan since everything else is quite solid.

^I just wish I had the time to take my SAT IIs and submit them to strengthen my app., but there is no way to do that considering that the EA deadline in Nov. 1st and as an international I am obliged to apply EA. I am going to take Math IIC, Bio-M, and Chem. None of which I can include to strengthen my app :frowning:

I hope that doesn’t come back to bite me. I have no APs either.

So wait, applying RD as an international will make it difficult for me to get into? I have 2250 SATs, good GPA, pretty good ECs etc. Plus, need no FA.

It’s a primarily a side effect of human thinking: The later you apply, the fewer slots are open, and they (perhaps unwittingly) aren’t likely to be as generous with weaker stats as they were before when they had more slots open.
