If I’ve been an a student almost entirely throughout high school, got an admission offer from Emory Early Decision, and I got a B+ in my AP Physics C class first quarter(a class which is notoriously difficult at my school), could a C+ in my second quarter get my offer rescinded assuming all of my other grades are relatively constant?
One C in a very difficult class most likely won’t be a problem. The general rule is, “No D’s, no F’s, no felonies”. A collection of Cs’s will raise eyebrows too, but not a lone C on an otherwise excellent transcript.
The UC colleges tend to be a little more specific, but as I understand it, they spell it out pretty clearly in the acceptance letter. You can always contact admissions if you are losing sleep over it, though.
Does Emory say anything specific about grade or GPA conditions in your admission offer?
If not, the high risk things relating to academics would be getting a D or F grade, or a large drop in GPA (e.g. 4.0 to 2.something).
In the enrollment agreement, there is a clause stating “Will maintain the same level of academic achievement through graduation”. But that’s all I could find.
It gives them the ability to rescind for any GPA drop. But, in practice, rescission for small GPA drops is rare enough never to have come up on these forums as anything other than a worry that high school seniors have.
One C no. Senioritis and multiple C, then they can rescind if they choose. Keep in mind, school’s want you to be preparing for college which is much harder. Don’t take your foot off the gas.
Just be the same great student that got you into Emory in the first place.
It’s only December. Go to your teacher and try to improve your understanding. Yes, it’s a tough class. Physics will be much easier in college if you have a base understanding now. It’s Not going to be easier.
So as it turns I had nothing to worry about, just one particularly bad grade… That being said, if I drop an extracurricular due to a lack of time in my schedule(actual reason due to build season for First Robotics starting), should I notify the school, or let it be?
