What would my academic rating be?

I know Harvard rates academics on a scale of 1 to 6. I know no one on here is an admissions officer, but I was wondering if my academic rating would be better half of the rate, prefereably a 1, 2, or 3.

GPA UW; 3.76 (Had a bad 2nd semester sophomore year, but should improvement junior and senior year)
13 AP Classes, including senior year (more than anyone in my school)
top 5% out of 600 students
Math 2 770, Bio M 740
SAT 2240: math 780, CR 690, writing 770
ACT 33
Come from a well-ranked blue ribbon school in California
Published a paper for poster presentation at a prestigious IEEE international conference (people who publish here are graduate or doctoral students. Don’t know if this goes into academic rating or extracurricular rating)

Again this isn’t a chance thread because I know plenty of other factors will be looked at. I was just wondering if I would at least meet the academic criteria and not be rejected due to academics.

Idk if someone can come close to “rating” you. Included in that rating are essays, recs, and other factors not known to us. That being said, it’s not like you’re not competitive. Just keep doing what you love and colleges will see it!

I know there are other factors like EC’s, and essays. But that’s why there is a personal, extracurricular, and athletic rating as well. I was specifically referring to the academic rating. But thanks for your response!

I plugged your stats into the academic index calculator on this website and got a 228 (out of 240) or 8 out of 9 AI rank when I used your unweighted gpa. I got a 218 when I used a class rank of 30 (5% of 600) or an AI rank of 6 out of 9. Do with this what you will.

If you plug your SAT scores, SAT Subject Test Scores, your 3.76 GPA, and 600 class size into the Academic Index, your AI score is a 222, or a 7 out of 9. On a 1-6 scale that’s probably a 2, with 1 being the highest. So, no you won’t be rejected because of your academics. However. many other applicants will be rated higher in academics than you, so to gain admission, you must bring other qualities to the table that offset your academics. http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index_calculator/

Keep in mind that Harvard uses a 1-6 rating system for your Teacher Recommendations, Essays, Interview Report, Extracurricular Activities, Strength of Character etc, so your AI is just one of those numbers.

Where did you all find out about this 1-6 rating system? I would love to read more about it.

Hey Gibby, do you think that AI calculator you posted the link to is accurate, or is it over-inflating?

The link is slightly outdated, and doesn’t take into account the latest tweaks to the AI. That said, it doesn’t over-inflate the AI. For a ballpark estimate it’s very accurate.

@go4cornell: Michele Hernandez in her book * A Is For Admission* details the rating systems found at Harvard and other schools, including Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia, Cornell, Amherst and Stanford:

In addition, Harvard’s rating system is mentioned in a number of articles, including:
