Well, one of the biggest questions I've been asking myself, "What would be the best "wises" schedule to have?" I have been thinking that having schedule just like highschool would be the best, to do homework afterwards and hopefully have the night off for me....or in the afternoon......well would like to know what you guys think, well what will you prefer as you ideal schedule.

my ideal schedule would be
classes on the afternoon study a little bit then at night go do blow

i really want to try having classes at like 1:00 AM or something... i know it isn't possible, but it sounds like it could be fun.

It really is up to you, you can't expect everyone to have the same preferences as you. Give a different kind a schedule a try each quarter, and then find out what works best for you. that's what i did, I ended up deciding I would rather have the mornings to myself and then go to classes later in the day; as opposed to getting all the classes over with early in the day.

I also tried having "blocks" of classes instead of spreading them out. I didn't like this. I like having breaks between classes.

give everything a try first.

Classes before noon suck.

The best schedule is one that fits YOUR schedule. But as for me, I prefer classes in the morning so that I have time to do homework and hang out with friends later in the day.

UCSD

Schedule:

General Chemistry 6A = Christina Johnson MWF 12:00p - 12:50
Discussion: M 3:00p - 3:50p

MATH 20B = Henning Hohnhold MWF 4:00p - 4:50
Discussion Th 4:00p - 4:50p

MMW1 = David K. Jordan MWF 2:00p - 2:50p
Discussion Tu 11:00a - 11:50a

To each their own.

Some of my friends like having their class at 8 am and end before noon.
I myself can NEVER wake up that early (it's different from HS; yes, I had zero period in HS too, and I had 6:30 classes too back then), and I myself prefer evening classes, so I have the bulk of my classes in the afternoon (start at around 11~12) and have a discussion or two late at night (8-9p).

I like having back-to-back classes too; you don't get lazy and don't not go to class. I learned this after my first two quarters.

On the other hand, you really want to choose the PROFESSOR, not the TIME.

Yes, professors matter much more than times.

Well, the professor comes at a cost too. If the prof is easy, relaxed and cool but he starts at 8AM or 9AM, that's too early for me personally

you speak from experience

and you speak as though you already know you'll get those classes. fyi, johnson is an extremely popular teacher so i suggest you start looking for back-ups.

Well, why would it be hard if I knew when signing up for classes begin? Do you know when, will they announce it through email or what?

Personally, even if a teacher is phenomenal, I would not choose an 8 am class simply because I know that I will miss too many classes. I am not a morning person, and early mornings give me a bad incentive to not go to class.

On the other hand, 9 am is do-able. Just depends on how great of a professor.

here's some quick math. there are ~4000 freshmen that are going to be signing up in a 4 day block of time. even if 1000 take chem6a, that means ~250 will be signing up each day. each lecture of chem is 300-350 people. say 70% of students who must take chem6a take johnson. 175 seats gone per day, and don't forget about the upperclassmen+sophomores who already signed up. so if you are assigned to the last day, then that kind of sucks for you, doesn't it, being waitlisted and all? ALWAYS PLAN A BACKUP.

Why would a sophmore choose Chem6A? Anyway, that's not the point, when do we find out our enrollment time?

What about chem 6AH - there's only ONE section. I can't take chem 6A for credit, and really don't want to take chem 6B.....

Take 6A like everyone else

a sophomore may choose to take 6a for many reasons. sudden change of heart, changing majors, need it for a GE, whatever. one of my suitemates started the chem6 series and she was a sophomore. my roommate next year (soph) is starting the chem6 series so don't think that it's only a freshman class. and if you haven't looked at the schedule of classes, a bunch of non-freshmen have signed up for chem6a.

I see.....
