What would you do if you got rejected?

write u chicago a hate letter telling them that it is their loss bc i am too cool

Why not? We sense that Holden is not a person flawed at the core, but only a narrator who lacks maturity and perspective. As teenagers, it’s unlikely that we won’t identify at least in part with him, whether we’re doing it consciously or subconsciously.

I guess I’d agree with you. I also get the sense that Holden’s a pretty good guy, deep-down (I think Salinger may have once said that he’s “hopelessly impaled” on the world’s beauty, which I thought was a great quote.) And it would stand to reason that he “reverberates” with teenagers.

On a side note, doesn’t the text imply that Holden is/has been committed to an institution of some sort?

Perhaps it does (I read it oh so long ago), but how’s that relevant to our discussion?

Who hates writing AP Chem lab write ups about the synthesis and analysis of alum? I hate writing AP Chem lab write ups about the synthesis and analysis of alum!

Thank god AP chem was a thing of my past (May 2008). I love having already graduated from HS. :)

Well, I don’t know what “AP chem” is like as APs aren’t my school’s thing, but I hate chem. SO MUCH.

I thought I’d share that with y’all.

Does it ever get any better, or is it all downhill from melting temperatures and molality?

Taking AP Chem right now. We just got out of Lewis Structures and are in thermo. Things haven’t gotten too bad yet, in terms of labs.

@Srrinath: it’s really not relevant to the discussion, but it’s a plot detail that I’ve always wondered about. Also, what part of India are you from, if I may ask? (I’m Indian too, though American-born)

Well I’m from Andhra Pradesh though I’ve been living in Singapore since I was two weeks old.

Lewis Structures and thermochemistry weren’t completely awful - although the latter was significantly more frustrating.

The only good part about chemistry is the fact that I get to eat Easy Mac, because I scheduled the class over my lunch period so the teacher lets me eat. :)

Well spiralcloud, we have that somewhat in common. I hate most areas of typical high school/college chemistry.

@supernova: colligative properties and combustion are both fun, just because the most popular demos involve ice cream and gummy bears… mmmmm.

lol I have a bunch of guys in my class who only appreciate when the demos fall into one of the two categories:

1) extremely explosive

or

2) vaguely sexual - our teacher can’t draw a test tube on the board without some jerk screaming, “THAT LOOKS LIKE A *****!” then eruptions of laughter ensue. It was especially bad the day we learned about the penetration effect.

I’ve seen the gummy bear one, only we did it with Mike & Ike’s instead.

Oh do these stories bring back memories hahaha. I took honors chem last year, taking AP chem this year. Oh the fun times I have in that class…srsly, today. I can’t even explain, you guys won’t get it, but let’s just say it’s fun ;)

Except when I spilt sulfuric acid all over my hand -.-

Folks, read this:

ahhhahh I am pretty sure I am already rejected. I have cried and feeling deperate. welll tommorrow is another day after all I won’t die because of this

Since it’s looking like I’m going to be deferred/rejected, all I’m doing is…nothing. A little shocked, really. I thought I was a really good fit.
