Ok so im having a lovely time with this 27 unit semester of mine. Most likely I will get 8 A's and who knows what in calculus. my last calc exam i bombed because i missed it the day it was given and only had 45 minutes to take it while others had 1 hour and 45 minutes, sounds like a an excuse but its the truth

MY QUESTION IS:
Should I purposely get a D in calc to retake it?
I could probably get a C in calculus, but i know i can get an A.

The thing is i dont want the UCs to see that on my app when we update in January.

With that D i will still have a high enough GPA to be accepted...but it just looks BADDD. And this calculus course isnt apart of my major prep...suggestions?

take the C. If you get a D/F that’s what they will see when you update, they won’t take your regrade into consideration and your GPA and your credibility as an applicant go down.

btw, how many of those 27 units are easy cake classes? if you can’t hack it in a pretty basic class like Calc (you have an excuse for a low grade…who doesn’t?) how are you pulling 8 A’s? I’m guessing they’re pretty easy…

(don’t worry we’ve all had high unit semesters with easy ass classes :D)

yeah. youre right chem, stats, second level english are cake classes.

in calc we have 2 tests and the final. the day of the second exam my dad had a heart attack. so when i retook it i only had 45 minutes when i thought i was gonna get 1 hour and 45 minutes.

no need to be so sensitive and call me a jackass…

chem (5), calc (5), stat (4/5), and english(3/4)…that’s around 18 units. Sounds like a tough schedule that everyone with a difficult major has been through at one time or another. Where are the other 9 units coming from?

sorry about your dad, my bad for insinuating that it was your fault when it wasn’t. Why didn’t your prof let you take it at a later date? that sounds like a good enough reason to excuse your tardiness…

Will your professor let you take an incomplete? That way your semester GPA will not be affected and you can finish the class whenever it is convenient for you or just take it when you get the the UC.

sorry to have called you a jackass, but i just didnt appreciate the assumptions.

my other classes i guess would be considered as “cake” (random classes to fulfill my igetc), but regardless they do take away from the time i could be studying for my harder classes because i have to be in class…and i have 3 jobs.

I was able to take the exam on a later date, but I wasnt aware that i would only be given 45 minutes. he said “i am very sorry to hear about your dad, but this is a transfer level class and im trying to prepare you for the hardships you will face at the university level”-bs

Sorry to hear about your father I know exactly how you felt my mother had a heart attack this semester too, and I had a*s of professor who wouldn’t let me retake a test. I ended up dropping their class and just explained on my app.

I would see if you can get an incomplete and retake the test, but the way your professor sounds unwilling to give you an incomplete. I say go for the C on the reason ANON mentioned.

go to administration and tell them that you were in an impossible situation and that your grade as well as your admission to university shouldn’t be jeopardized by the fact that it was a “transfer level class”.
There are compassionate people who have some clout on these issues. Try to schedule a meeting with the head counselor, transfer coordinator, or even the school president/vp. A immovable community college professor shouldn’t be standing in the way of your admission to a real university.

Do something, it’ll be worth more than letting the professor give you a C.

does ur school have an academic renewal policy? like if u get a D/F u can retake it and get an A. but u cant do that if u get a C. i would just get a C tho

o yea. and i am taking 24 units too. but i know how much harder it’s for u b/c u added one more class like calc. i admit, most of my classes are easy, but when u add them all up, its not so easy anymore

I think a C will definitely look better than a D. Even if you get a D and retake the class in spring, you’ll still have to update the course grade in Jan and tell them you got a D. I think that will look really bad. If you decide to go take the “C” be sure to explain why you received that grade on your application update in January.

If you decide to pursue some of "anonymoususername"s tips and take an incomplete, be sure to demonstrate/explain on your application udpate that you will be able to finish the class with a good grade before end of spring. I think an “I” or a “C” are your best options at this point.
