Should I go University at Buffalo(6 hours from current address) or go to a college near me like Hunter /Baruch/ Queens(~30 mins - 1 hour).
Net cost for me personally
Baruch / Hunter / Queens = ~1 - 2,000$ per year(commute)
Buffalo = ~13,000$ per year(dorm)
I plan on transferring to Stony Brook. I want to dorm, but it is expensive.
So, should I just go to a college near my house to save money since I’m planning on transferring next year anyways. OR
Just go to Buffalo and see how that goes. (Maybe I’ll like it and stick there)
Major Choice - Computer Science/Business
Family Income - low
What would you do …?
This is a very personal decision. I can’t imagine how someone else can answer this for you. If you plan to transfer to Stony Brook, then maybe you can save money this year by living at home. Then you can get the full college experience once you transfer to SB. Or, if you can afford it, you can simply go to Buffalo and stay there. But if that means taking out large loans, it may not be a good idea unless you are going into computer engineering where your starting salary is likely to be high enough that you can take on some debt.
Did you apply for financial aid and fill out FAFSA?
Where would you get the $13k for Buffalo…or for Stony?
Did you get both a full Pell Grant and a TAP grant? What other aid did you get?
@MaroonDaddy Yes, I did the financial aid is already calculated into the net cost above.
@mom2collegekids Yes, I got both a full Pell Grant and a TAP grant no other aid though.
The $13K is from my own savings,loans, and parents.
