I've encountered a headache! Looking for solution.

I want to engage in Econimics, and perhaps, if I managed to change my major, Business, and there are Three schools which are hard to choose:

University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign(UIUC)
&
University of Maryland College Park(UMCP)
&
University of Wisconsin Madison

As for rankings, UIUC&Madison are better than UMCP, but UMCP has a better location, and from their school chat I learned I can really benefit from UMCP as I would have lots of internship opportunities if I get in.

What would you say about these two schools?

Tell me which one to choose! (Quality is the first thing for me to consider, not cost)

Wait until you know about your acceptances, and any financial aid packages, before getting worried about this. At least two of these are out of state for you, so there may indeed be significant differences in the cost to your family. Sit down with your parents, and run the numbers. In addition to the factors each institution includes in the estimated Cost of Attendance (COA), don’t forget to include estimates for your travel expenses, and (if moving from a warmer stat to UIUC or UWI-M) winter wardrobe.

If you are admitted to more than one of these universities, and all financial factors appear to be equal, then post a question along the lines of “College X or College Y for major in Z” in the Parents Forum. You should be able to get some decent evaluations of the programs from working professionals in the field.

Happymomof1: thanks for advise on considering the costs! Actually I, as well as my parents care more about the academic backgrounds and opportunities~ though I’ve talked with my parents about the costs, they seem to focus continuously on whether I can benefit more in my major(I.e. Intern, social activity, job opportunities~). Can you provide me with some evaluation in such areas?

For the social questions, you’d best pay a visit to each campus and see what it feels like to you. All of these are big state universities so in many ways they are the same, but each institution does have its own feel. Also, they are in very locations. UWI-M is smack in the middle of the state capitol, UM-CP is in the DC Metro suburbs, and UIUC is in a decent-sized university town smack in the middle of the cornfields of Illinois. I’m fine with the location of UIUC, but some people wouldn’t be because they just can’t get over how far it is from Chicago.

Questions about internships and job placement can be directed to the career center at each university, and even to the specific departments that you are interested in. They should be happy to tell you all about themselves!

Lastly, if you know what career you’d like to pursue, you should talk to some people who are already working in that field. They will be able to tell you whether or not the name on your university diploma matters after your first job. Some types of business tend to only hire people who are locally trained. If your career field is like that, choosing a university in the location where you would like to begin your professional life often makes sense.
