I heard from some people saying that except UC Berkeley and UCLA, all the other UCs do not care if your personal statements are great. They say that these UCs are only looking for certain things to "earn you the points" for admission, regardless of how ungrammatical or bad the essays are. If this correct or a myth?

*I think I have seen a thread that talked about this topic before, can anyone find it for me?

No, of course not. If you’re essay is patently stupid they won’t let you in. Of course, the essay portion of the application might not matter as much to them as it would to a private university, but this is the norm for all state universities. They tend to value numbers more because the applicant is so ridiculously large that they use the quantifiable measures to separate the wheat from the chaff.

There are honestly very few people in this forum who have much authority on the admission policies of a university.

Some UCs will count the essays more and some less. But you still have to do a good job since it is the same app and same essays for all the UCs.

As flight23 said, public schools tend to be more numer based which means high gpa/test scores are more important.

The UCs that have a more well known point system for admissions are UC San Diego, UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis.
