What're my chances at Huntsman?

As you can see, I'll be attending Princeton in the fall. Good luck to you, the Huntsman Program is a great opportunity.

Thanks. Hey did you apply to regular penn or to Huntsman?

I was accepted to the Huntsman Program. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions on the application process.

Hey guys, does anyone know how Penn's Chinese program compares to that of the other ivies?

Hey..

My target language would be Arabic but the prob is that I can only read and write the Arabic script. Am really bad at conversation and vocab. Am I going to run into probs here since I am not technically "fluent" in the target language although I could probably pick it up having been born and brought up in the middle east?

Also, I lack leadership activities. Would having a passion for an activty compensate for this or is having a few leadership activities a must?

Thanks

globe, that depends...I am friends with a native Chinese speaker, and really, she doesn't have much to get out of the program. I don't know how good the others are, but Penn's is nothing spectacular.

also, fluency isn't a requirement..I mean you have to be good, but not always fluent...I know a guy who somehow was able to get in without event aking a placement exam (in Spanish...he just never sent it in and got in). He struggled thought his language course, but the moral of the story si that he got in because he was much mroe than just a "spanish speaker."

So does your chinese friend go to huntsman?

question for globebrain, i'm a native chinese speaker... can read too. and i'm thinking of volunteering at the olympics too for 2008, how did you get to be a translator? 'cause i thought the apps weren't out until august.

Yeah, my Chinese friend is in the Huntsman program.

I'm not voulenteering for the actual olympics 2008, but instead summer of 2007 i'll probably be helping to translate for the people at GE who are setting up the generators and airconditioning for the actual event

Probably be helping next summer? Why is this listed on your resume, then?

Nonetheless, I think you have a great chance, especially since you're non-native and fluent in Mandarin.

is this GE thing a legitimate job or are you parents/relatives/family friends in at GE and hooked you up with it... because thats what it looks like. if not, make sure you clarify that on the app, AND DO NOT put it down unless it is certain, because it makes you look shady if you submit an application with an EC that you will be doing in 7 months.

otherwise though, you are a pretty damn impressive candidate.

Parental connections, perhaps. I can't help but wonder why GE would hire a 17-year-old "nearly fluent" translator when there are many more qualified candidates for the job.
