I have heard the phrases "high ranked" or "competetive" used to describe people's high schools... what defines these words? A national ranking of some sort for the school? My high school is (in my view) rather uncompetetive, with average SATs of 1010 (2 scores!!!! its not that bad) Theres about 800 kids in it, relatively wealthy area... how would this rank on the competetive-ness scale? low???

There are national rankings, but they can often be unclear and/or politically motivated. Look your top ten stuudents, see where they went, are most of your top 10 going to ivy leagues?

A 1010 SAT is almost the dead on national average. This is probably not what you would consider a competitive school. A competitive school would have about a 1200 average SAT or close, and would send 10% to very top colleges. A very competitive school 1400 or close and sends 30% to very top colleges.

thank you, and hardly anyone from my school goes to top universities :(
