Generally how are high schools ranked? Also how familiar are adcoms with the relatively good schools? Kind of wondering since I was looking up my high school on the Newsweek top 1000 and found it to be at like #4xx.

well considering that admissions committees have reps for each part of the country, id say that the rep should be at least familiar with relatively good schools.

Does your school appear in newspapers?

If it does, is it always mentioned as one of the "elite" or "top" schools?

If you say you go to X HS, do people recognize your school?

If the aforementioned don't apply to you, you probably attend a pretty regular hs.

^hey Diana!

hi splooshy :DD!!

yeah I wouldnt really use those newsweek things, a lot of them leave out high schools that require entrance examination etc.

AND those hs ratings are biased b/c they take the ratio of ap exams taken to the number of students, which is highly unreliable way of ranking.
