What's a good linear algebra book

I'm going to self study over the summer. I want a very easy to understand text that I just read it to understand. I'd prefer something pretty concise and low cost too. Nothing too serious.

Any recommendations?

Um, Strang is the one they use for intro (basic) lin alg in my school. I hear it's okay. Not bad, at least.

we use lay at my schoool.

http://www.laylinalgebra.com/

we use lay here too, but get the 2nd edition, its like $5-10 online, compared to the 3rd which I never bought. I later found out it was $130.

David Poole-introduction to linear algebra

Ok, i'm looking for something SHORT and EASY

Buy Anton's book.

There are no good Algebra books. There are no good Algebra courses. All of the world's pleasure is all about the history culture foreign language and calligraphy.

Don't take econ either or you'll have a headache with the graphs and GDP deflator/CPI calculation equations.

You actually develop a headache over such simple calculations? Are you presumptuous enough to assume that other CCers are just as likely as you are in developing such a headache over such simple calculations? Whenever you dispense out advice, always ask the question,

"does the audience differ from myself in ways such that my advice may not apply to the audience due to the ways that I differ from the audience?"

If so, best to refrain from dispensing out such advice.

Since calkid just wants to self-study a simple linear algebra book (assuming no theory)...

Alot of people dont relize how important linear algebra is. It is the sole reason for Googles success.

Maybe in the sense that all the information is stored in a matrix, but the PageRank(tm) algorithm is really more grounded in discrete stochastic processes than linear algebra.
