what's a good sport to join....

cross country and swimming

I know when I was first debating whether or not to join track, hearing some of the practice schedules was kind of frightening. It may all sound hard and impossible at first but you really do get used to it. This is how my track team practices. Pretty similar to didnotfailatlife's.

Jog 800m for warmup
Stretch
Jog another 800m

Then we split up into whatever groups. Sprinters, distance, throwers, Jumpers. And I run distance so that what I know.

Distance people alternate between road loops and track workouts. I'm not very good, only JV, so my workouts aren't as hard as the varsity girls. Usually my road loops are between 3-5 miles. The workouts are intervals or strides. Intervals as running a set amount of distance multiple times, trying to keep the same pace. We'll do like 6x400m. Or 8x200m.

After a track workout we usually then cooldown. Cooldown is around 1-2 miles.

Marching band

C'mon--it's fun, doesn't involve a lot of athletic activity, and does wonders for your lungs, calves, and arms/shoulders depending on what instrument you play. You are varsity in many places, and you can also write it down as music =P

Oh haha, I totally forgot about the cool down. Yea, we're suppose to run a mile after intervals, but only the overachievers do that... the rest of us walk for a while and then chill.

The first week was killer, but after that you get used to it quite fast. One thing about track though, is that the meets last FOREVERRRR, especially if the home team sets up/takes down the hurdles really slow. One meet that I was at went from 3 to 10 because the other team only had like 2 people working on the hurdles. The next day coach yelled at us for not helping them...

Bowling, Table Tennis, Archery...

Cross country is probably the best bet, as many people have said. My brother joined and even though he's not a great runner, he just did so he had motivation to run every day. Ask if you can skip the meets and just run with the team to get yourself in shape.

i would do that but xc is over and track i hear from my friends is very hardcore.

:( i'll maybe give it a shot though. thanks everyone!

Track is only hardcore for the people that want it to be. You don't have to run yourself to death if you're not aiming for first (or second or third or whatever scoring position, though I hear the 2 mile is great for getting free points because nobody ever wants to do that) in that race.

..huh (10 char)

Bowling. :)

Get a membership to a gym. It will really help.

haha bowling. physical exertion at its best
