What's a reasonable backpack?

Hey guys, hope you’re enjoying your last week of summer break! I know I am ;)

Yesterday I was looking at backpacks and came into an interesting bind; I like larger laptops. I currently have a 16" Sony, and a 15" apple, and plan on keeping/using both. I mean, I’m in computer engineering of course I’d have a nice big screen >> I hate programming on small screens.

Anyway, the 16" laptop necessitates a slightly larger bag. I’ve been looking at north face bags and swiss gear bags and for example, the north face big shot… is it simply going to be too big? Chances are that a lot of the time I’ll only be carrying 1 book and a plastic folder loaded with lots of paper… I mean, there’s always the associated calculators/pens/other junk but it’s not that big a deal

In other words, do you think it’s worth the trouble of having a large bag if you’re probably not going to be using its full capacity that much? Does anyone have one of the larger north face bags? Comments? Is it possible to ride a bike with one on your back? THAT I’m worried about XD

Thanks ^^

Attache- or messenger-style bags are good for oversized things like big laptops, large documents, and so on. Messenger-style bags are better for riding with than attache-style bags. They also have better padded compartments for laptops than most backpacks I’ve seen.

Heh I ended up buying the big shot. You know, I don’t get how one rides a bike with a bag on their side. That said, this one will be replacing a messenger-type bag because I hate having 30lbs hanging on my right side.
