US or world history? If US, think about colleges on the East Coast in very historically rich cities. For example, UPenn, UVA, Washington & Lee, William & Mary, Georgetown...etc.

Especially consider UVA for American history. After all, it was founded by Thomas Jefferson, one of the most influential men our country has ever known.

Yes, yes if I could get into UVA... really I have a chance of maybe getting into UVA but it's not the best chance in the world. And this is why I am asking for schools not in the top 25. What about Temple University? Do they have a good history program? Also, VA Tech is the school I really want to go to but I don't think they have a good history program but I hear that history professors are in such abundance that you can get a quality history degree from practically anywhere. Would it look bad to apply to law school and have a history degree from VA Tech?

Also, I am not sure whether I will major in US or World History yet. Still got to figure that out.

Aw, I think you might be selling yourself short, Shazilla. What are your stats?

Boston University

to semiserious: here are my stats...

Also let me mention that the trig course and pre cal course listed in junior year are each a semester course so they don't factor in to my GPA as much. Also under junior year the Graphics Img. Tech II class is worth 2 credits so it counts as 2 A's on my GPA. Estimated weighted GPA after junior year:
3.85 - 3.90.

My SAT scores: a 730 on my reading, 650 on my math, and 620 on my writing. I am on the varsity ice hockey team, do community service, can list a lot of awards, and have just a few clubs. I am also a minority (Asian - Indian Subcontinent). I am also first generation.

Like I said, not much of a shot at UVA.

Well, now that I actually posted stats... what schools could I get into that have a good history program? You guys think I would get accepted into Rutgers? Everyone keeps telling me that I'm a shoe in at BU but I find it a bit hard to believe.

BU:
Average GPA: 3.49
Average SAT: 1278

you have a:
1380
3.8

I'd say it's definitely a solid match.

Yea, I saw that too but I also noticed on their princetonreview.com page it says that they accept only 57% of people. I mean what does the 43% getting rejected not have that the 57% does have? This whole college admission thing makes no sense to me...

anyways, I'm about to go to bed. I'll post responses to new posts tomorrow. Thanks for all the feedback. :)

Are you from Virginia? I noticed you mentioned Virginia Maintence, AKA Special Tech, in an earlier post. (Haha, I'm sorry, I can't help it...UVA blood runs in my veins. :) ) Tech isn't a very big draw for out of staters, so forgive me if I jumped to any conclusions. Anyway, if you are from Virginia, I think you've got a shot at UVA for sure! I mean, it's not a shoe-in (it never is), but I wouldn't give up on yourself so easily. If you're out of state, well, it's still worth a try if you're interested. :)

College is one of those things in life that's about reaching for. It's not about limiting yourself--everyone's got to apply to a few of those crazy reach schools just on the off-chance that something, ANYTHING will catch the adcom's eye and get you in. So never stop yourself from applying somewhere because you "can't get in". Go for what you want, even if everyone else thinks you're nuts.

My guidance counselor told me it would be a miracle if I got into UVA and not only was I admitted, I'm an Echols Scholar (sort of like Honors program). So down with the haters!

Of course, make sure you apply to safeties too. :)

Many LACs have excellent programs in history, and you will get a lot of personal attention. And I am not just talking about Amherst, Swat, and Williams! Have you considered schools like Earlham College, Beloit, or Kalamazoo in the midwest? They should be solid matches.

I went to Kalamazoo for undergrad and eventually earned a Ph.d. in history. Other friends continued into law school.

K-College is criminally underrated.

I agree. They do a very poor job tooting their own horn. They do an excellent job educating students.

Thanks Drew...I couldn't agree with you more! My S. is heading to K College this fall...most likely an Econ. major. He'll appreciate hearing what you've posted. :)

What is K College? Also, semiserious, I am from VA so I guess that improves my shot at UVA a little bit. Semiserious, did your parents or someone else in your family go to UVA? I heard they let legacies in a lot easier than people who aren't legacies. Not sure if it's true or not but it's what I've heard.

Also, I wouldn't mind a liberal arts college but I don't really want to go to the midwest would much rather stay in the mid-atlantic region.
