What's a superscore?

The question above.

Colleges take the best SAT scores from each section

SAT first time taken 620 / 690/ 650
SAT 2nd time taken 670 / 650 / 720
Super Score = 670 / 690 / 720

Some Colleges Super Score… Some Don’t

oh nice!!!

when they add all scores together.

Pretty sure all the elite colleges now just do score choice, not superscore?

Wrong. Score Choice is a new College Board policy that allows you to decide which of your scores (i.e., which sittings for the SAT I, which individual subject tests for SAT II) you submit to colleges. But a few elite colleges now say they want to see all your scores—which pretty much eliminates Score Choice, if you comply with the colleges’ request. (If you don’t comply and you get caught it could disqualify your application, so I wouldn’t recommend going that route).

But Score Choice or no, almost all elite colleges superscore the SAT if you submit multiple scores. They say they do it because they want to look at your application in the most favorable light, by crediting you with your best performance in each subsection. Another, possibly more important reason they superscore is that it affects how your SAT scores are reported for purposes of calculating their 25th and 75th percentile medians, which in turn affects their US News ranking. Pretty strong incentive to superscore.

Haha this thread makes me think of the good old days before all this college nonsense when I knew nothing.

when the elite colleges say that they dont want score choice, does that apply to sat iis also? because i took a lot of tests throughout my three years in high school and i just want them to see the three highest. is that possible?
