What would be a typical freshmen biosci schedule. like what would they take in fall quarter, then winter, then fall.

With Humanities Core:
Fall:
HumCore (8 Units)
Bio 93 (4 Units)
Chem 1A (4 Units)

Winter:
HumCore (8 Units)
Bio 94 (4 Units)
Chem 1B (4 Units)

Spring:
HumCore (8 Units)
Chem 1C (4 Units)
Elective/GE (4 Units)

If your not taking HumCore then you can replace it with Writing 39B(4 Units), Writing 39C(4 Units) and GEs as needed.

^^ add Bio 2B (2 units, P/NP) to Spring quarter and Chem 1LB (2 units) and Chem 1LC (2 units) to Winter and Spring quarter respectively.

would it be able to take a foreign language all 3 quarters?

Don’t forget math in the mix!

I’m not too sure about the foreign language, you might be able to if you are finished with math already… or you want to put math off…

Oh yea I forgot lab for Winter/Spring quarter.

In terms of math, you don’t need to take it until sophomore year. Humcore, Bio, Chem, Chem Lab is already 18 units, so you would be unable to take math.

A foreign language would be tricky/impossible with HumCore, but if you were taking the writing 39B-39C series then it would be possible. Language courses are generally 5 units.

whats the difference with Humcore and writing?

<a href=“EEE+ Home | UCI”>EEE+ Home | UCI;
Humanities Core tends to have a larger workload. But the benefits are pretty good considering you get rid of the Lower-Division Writing requirements along with a few other general education courses. It’s supposed to be a lot more challenging than most courses and it gets tough if you take many other courses along with it.

[UCI Lower-Division Writing](http://www.writing.uci.edu/ldw.html)
People tend to take Writing as opposed to Hum Core. To fulfill the lower-division writing requirement, one must take Writing 39B and 39C before their junior year. Compared to the workload of Hum Core, I personally think that Writing is easier because it is only 4 units compared to the 8 which in turn does not require as much work as Hum Core. Writing tends to be the more popular option and it is definitely challenging to get a writing class depending on your class standing.

I’m currently on the process of completing my lower-division writing requirements. I think that the writing classes are more fun because they involve different themes (zombies, Harry Potter, etc.) whereas Hum Core base their works classical literature novels and stuff like that.
