What's bad about UCF?

another thing is if you have lets say a 3.9 unweighted with high test score, there is a chance you might not get in because if you have grades waay over the universities average then you are over qualified. They will probably think even though they accepted that because of your gtades you will pick a better school such as UF over UCF.

What’s bad about UCF?

dubstep

2280 SAT, 3.98 UW GPA…got accepted 6 hours after my app was complete.

I think in that sense they would be more likely to accept you, and throw all the honors apps/scholarship money that they could at you before they lose you. I know some people choose UCF over UF solely because of the money/programs they’re offered upon enrolling.

Instead of resurrecting old, unrelated threads you should make a new one. Just saying.

Actually, the over-qualifying thing is kind of true, but I’ve only heard of such a case from UF. A student applied to UF, got rejected, got into Yale (or was it Stanton?) instead. Not sure where I heard this from as it’s been a while.

Worst thing about UCF? Like everyone else said, parking. It SUCKS. Really. I brought a car, but I take the shuttle bus everywhere to avoid the hassle of fighting over a parking space with someone. And they give out parking tickets like crazyyy. Make no mistake and just take the bus!

And the party scene is kinda… I’ll say eye-opening. I remember my first year at UCF when I was mad confused seeing all these girls and guys dressed up waiting for the bus down near Nike’s parking lot on a Thursday night. I think it’s a reason why graduation rate is so low here- it’s easy to get tempted.

Oh, another thing I despise has to be the math classes. How most/all of them have these stupid online portions and you have to take your tests online too. One little mistake and the whole question is marked as incorrect.

Honestly, some classes at UCF you will find very difficult to pass. If you see a professor on RateMyProfessor with horrible ratings, don’t be stupid and take the risk. Rather, go take the class at a CC instead.

Wow, that was eye-opening.

Mizz …“it’s easy to get tempted.” So what does getting tempted or better (ahhhh)
have to do with graduating?

Curious. Thanks for explaining it all to an old guy.

.02

I think was Mizz was indicating towards was the fact that, you have to have blinders on, when it comes to getting your school work and studying done. UCF is different then schools like UF and FSU, mainly because of it’s location. A lot of the times, at others schools, there’s really nothing to do during the weekends, so it pushes you harder to study…just for something to do. However, since UCF is in Orlando, there is more then plenty in the ‘entertainment’ aspect. If someone doesn’t be careful, they may just go out every single weekend, because of what Orlando can offer, rather then studying. That’s how my psychology teacher explained the situation:)

Thanks, now I understand. D

That actually makes a whole lot of sense. Orlando does have various revenues for entertainment and the such. I think it was rated a top “party school” in Florida. I’m not swayed too much by temptation nor do I lose focus easily so I think I’ll be alright if I go here.

UCF isn’t a bad school, nor is it easy to get into. It’s actually gotten fairly selective over the years, largely due to the fact almost everyone in Central Florida applies to UCF by default. It’s basically the only game in town if you want to go to school in Central Florida and can’t afford Rollins or Stetson.

The worst thing about UCF is the difficulty of scheduling classes that you need. The school is simply huge and is a bit overcrowded. The “U Can’t Finish” joke has been around since at least the 1990s.

The graduation rate isn’t really a fair criticism. Again, UCF is the only decent public school in the area and there are a lot of commuter students who can only go to school part-time. The graduation rate at FSU, and especially UF, benefit from their geographic isolation. There just aren’t as many people in their respective metro areas who commute to school. Most FSU and UF students are full-time students and therefore graduate more quickly.

Write is correct. But I don’t necessarily think it’s only because Orlando has ‘so much to do’, but more because it is a college environment after all. Students will be exposed to a lot of kids that likes to go out and get drunk every day of the week or ones that doesn’t like to go out at all and it’s up to the individual to find that balance between their academic and social life. It’s very easy to get swayed to either side of the spectrum and it takes a lot of students some time to learn this. To be quite honest, from past experience, my grades has definitely suffered from this as well, LOL. Thank God I was able to change my ways before it was too late!

The main thing i didn’t like about UCF was the lack of school pride. Basically everyone in my tour group told me the only reason they were planning to attend UCF was because they were rejected by FSU/UF/USF. Even my tour guide was wearing an FSU bracelet. In the end, this was the deciding factor for me. I couldn’t see myself attending a school where the students essentially rooted against themselves. UCF is a beautiful school in a great location with growing respect, but without a since of school spirit I could never see myself there.

^

Wow, sorry that you had such an encounter with those people! I can tell you there’s plenty of school pride here! Of course there will always be those few students likes to represent other schools, i.e. wearing FSU or UF hoodies. I wear my UCF hoodies and shirts everywhere and I’m proud of it!

They don’t have what I want to major in, classes are enormous, a ridiculous number of classes are taught entirely by TAs, TOO MANY PEOPLE, not taken seriously by many because it’s a party school.

But I’m going to get an ungodly amount of money from them that I’ll be able to pocket since I’ll be living at home.

It’s mostly labs that are taught entirely by TAs at UCF, which is pretty standard for most schools…Very few lectures have only a TA teaching them, if any.

My son had his AA degree and a 3.8 GPA. He was on honor roll in high school and has been playing minor league baseball for the Arizona DiamondBacks, and he did not get accepted. So it can’t be that easy!

After reading this thread I’m getting a tiny bit more concerned about transferring from FSU to here haha.

How is the shuttle service? My Seminole Express route takes about 20-30 minutes to and from the campus and I live about 2.5-3 miles off campus.

The schedule of classes is horrendous. If you were planning to take classes only two/three days a week or all daytime classes or all nighttime classes think again. The main reason why their graduation rates are so low is because they don’t offer the classes students need when they need them. There are students who have to come back an extra semester for one class in order to finish their degree requirements because they didn’t offer the class they needed to finish.
