What's better - a C of D/F?

I'm getting a C in one of my classes. Should I ask my prof to give me a lower grade so I can retake the class? If I do better, the D or F won't be factored into my cumulative GPA, and I won't be stuck with a C. The tradeoff is, of course, having aa very ugly grade on my transcript. =(

I dont know your exact situation but, if I all of a sudden knew I was going to get a C I woudnt show up for the final so i would get a D or F; But thats just how I would do it.

how does it not factor into your GPA if you fail it?

Because when he retakes it and gets a better grade, his previous grade of D/F doesnt get factored into his cum. GPA and instead, his new grade will be counted.

Did you apply for admission this year? Because if you did, a D/F grade would certainly look worse than a C grade... and even more if it's a major requirement.

I would suggest for you to take the C.

doesn't it still show that you retook the class altogether? I would think that would look just as bad as a C.

Sometimes teachers, like my accounting teacher, would let students ask for a W on the day of the final, which looks better than the little retake symbol they put by that class on your transcript.

Yeah but some schools have a withdrawal deadline, and after that date, you have to live with the grade you earned.

Yeah ours does, but somehow the accounting teacher just gave the girl a W on the day of the final. He was exceptionally nice though.

Ouch! I made one B in college so far and that grade seems to be haunting me no matter how many A's I have made. As silly as this sounds...I recommend that you make a D....so you can take that class with the intention of making an acceptable grade. However on the other hand if your transcript consists of A's and some B's and one C...hopefully the college can look beyond that one C.
