hey guys just wondering what your stance on this issue is. Personally i go to a school with block scheduling...and I happen to like it. (4-5 classes first semester) and (4-5) classes next semester. I get one hour lunch everyday...it rocks.

So what's your position on this and what do you currently have? How does your block scheduling work.

the only compaint that i have ever heard about block scheduling is for AP classes. Some kids forget the stuff they learned first semester for the AP exam.

Our schedule is called "block" but it's different. We have eight classes so it's just 1A-4A on mondays and wednesdays; 1B-4B on tuesdays and thursdays; and Fridays alternate between A's and B's every other week. Our classes are thus all 1 hour and 40 minutes, except the shortened Friday which is 1 hour and 15 minutes each per class.

My school has block, 4 classes in the fall and 4 in the spring. We work around the AP problems by either A) turning AP courses into two-credit (year-long) courses or B) only offering one-credit AP courses (such as Psych and Statistics) in the spring semester. I love it and so do most of my teachers. Because of block, we have 90 minute periods that allow for more discussion and lecture than a more traditional 6-period day.

The best thing about it is that it allowsa student to take two sequential courses in a single year, for example Algebra 2 and Trig. Block allows me to take all the math and science offerings through Calc BC and Physics C with room left over for other AP subjects in english and social studies.

We have block schedule, but it's day-by-day. To elaborate: we have six classes (periods 1 - 6). Period 1, 3 and 5 will be on one day, then 2, 4 and 6 will be on the next day, and it'll alternate like that (where the periods are all 144 minutes long). There's also a 0 and 7 period (both optional) that meet every day and are roughly an hour long each.

I like this schedule a lot, because we get a lot more done in class (in my opinion), and there's two days to finish homework...

My schdule is block... but it is different from your guy's. We have 8 periods through the whole year. But we break it up by one day even 2,4,6,8 and 1,3,5,7 and we do every other day like this through the whole school

Block scheduling is so great, EXCEPT AP COURSES!!! Ugh, You get them in the first semester, which ends around December/beginning of January, then you take the damn test in May. I didn't have that problem with AP English only because they made it all year. The thing is, all AP courses are only offered in the first semester.

But I love having four classes each semester, it's less stressful than having flat out 7 classes all year.

If it wasn't for Block Scheduling, I probably wouldn't be taking Calculus, I doubled up on Math two years in a row.

nice...yeah the only downfall to our school is that our curriculum is pretty set untill senior year where we have a limited choice. Our school offers only AP Calc and well advnaced bio and chem for like college credit at this one college. But they pretty much cover what's in AP so I guess I'll take AP BIo CHem and Calc when AP exams arrive in senior year. but yeah block scedhule makes life a lot more stress free and since we have 90 min periods it makes for better learning

We're on a six day schedule, so one day we will have ABCD classes and the next we'll have EFGH. Some classes are different b/c they only show up once in a six day schedule. For example, one E you might have gym, the next you might have a science lab. Classes are all 90 minutes, but lunch is only 20 minutes!

I really like it, even for APs because you get a lot done, and you have two days for homework

Our school colors are maroon and white, so we have block scheduling that alternates between maroon and white days. However, our lunches are terrible, we have a 2 20 minute lunches.

My school does the same as carbonfishbone's: alternating A Day (1,3,5,7) and B Day (2,4,6,8). I think this is the best schedule because it gives you two days to get your homework done, and you haven't forgotten everything by the time IB and AP exams start.

i LOVE block scheduling. its exactly like vupreuss06. so in the fall, u can get rid of classes such as math and english and history all in the fall semester and take fun classes in spring :D. unfortunately, that was freshman year :( ap's are usually every other day the entire year, which kind makes u less prepared than regular schools. also, since i live in CA, we graduate in end of june, making us have even less time than before for ap tests

Each period is 54 minutes long. If you want, you can take a "Zero" period that starts at 7:30 (as opposed to first period starting at 8:30)

I like normal schedules...we still have plenty of time to get into discussions and the shortness of the period ensures that we don't get too off topic. I never found lack of time to be an issue.
