My school does normal...8 hours of 48-53 minutes each.

3 lunch periods

I like normal...I don't think I could handle 100 minutes of a single class.

Block is great because that's TWO DAYS to finish homework.

I've had both block (4 classes a day alternating) and regular (8 a day everyday), and I think I prefer the regular. the classes go a lot quicker, and so does the day so if there's a class you really hate, its over quick. and if it's a class you really like, you have it everyday.

I love having the classes for so long. It gives you a chance to go a lot further in depth, plus you are guaranteed no more than 4 tests in a day. I always remember regular being WAY too hectic. Also, block prepares you for college

Hehe, most schools I have gone to only have a standard of 7 classes... Here I have a block schedule. We have Blue day (periods 1-4) and Red day (periods 5-8) and 8th period we have seminar which thankfully I am permitted to take a class in that seminar slot next year =D I love it though.. we have more time in class to get things done, two days for home work.. a limit of four tests a day, etc.. I moved to Germany from a normal scheduled school in Belgium and I like this a lot, althogh I was skeptical at first due to the fact that you have to see a teacher you don't like for 90 minutes. Um I go to an American school on a military base though, don't wanna confuse you all. :)

I think that the best method is

Monday- ALL classes 1-8
Tuesday- ODD classes 1,3,5,6,7
Wednesday-Even classes 2,4,5,6,8
Thursday- ODD classes 1,3,5,6,7
Friday-Even classes 2,4,5,6,7

You have Semester A and Semester B classes. So if you have Algebra A 1st period, then you get 1 hr 30 mins every other day and monday you get 45 minutes. Semester B you might get Algebra B 2nd period or whatever then you get it every other day with monday a 45 minute class

Peiord 5 and 6 are 45 minutes long and are everyday. If you have lunch period 5 then you have class period 6, and vice versa. It all balances out since you will have 5 shorten period classes a week while having 2 long and 1 short for your other classes (1-8, ex 5,6)

The block schedule with 4 classes per semester is awful. I am so thankful to have the 7 period a day schedule, but I wish we had 6 classes, which seems most standard in American High Schools.

yeah 4 block is best for college plus as teh bluemuffin said...no more than 4 tests a day and that rarely ever happens...max 3 usually

Our 8 classes (block schedule) are throughout the whole year... and we run on a trimester schedule (which sucks).. We're also stuck with a pretty much set path until graduation.. I really wish there were more opportunities to learn- since we get out at 3:50, and I stay late sometimes, there aren't many afterschool classes that I can take. And we only get approx 5 weeks for this summer, so we're all kinda screwed for summer internships/programs, etc..
I'd like to have a regular schedule, or a block schedule that changes every semester.

"My school is "regular" but rotating schedule. We take 7 classes but go to 6 each day.

Very strange concept until you actually take classes under the system..."

same... do we go to the same school? my school calls it a "block" schedule... it goes like this

Monday: A B C D lunch E F
Tuesday: G A B C lunch D
Wednesday: E F G A lunch B C
Thursday: D E F G lunch A B
Friday: C D E F lunch G

tuesdays and fridays are shorter days...

My school uses block schedule, and I love it. Here are some pros and cons about block schedule...

Pros:
-You can finish one-year course in a semester.
-That means, if you hate the teacher or the class, you only have to deal with it for one semester.
-You can finish 2 years of foreign language or math in one year (Spanish 1 on semester 1, Spanish 2 on semester 2).
-You get to be more prepared for AP exam since the class time is long.
-4 to 5 classes a day. You get to focus on one subject more than having 7 to 8 classes.
-Science classes may have both lecture time and lab time.

Cons:
-You can't take a lot of AP classes.
-IMO, some classes have to go forward very fast. For example, in Spanish, you have to memorize more vocabs in certain amount of time than the regular classes. Same thing with English.
-Each class is pretty long (like 80-90 minutes)! This can be problem if you have problem with paying attention in class.

mine is block, like Hamster's. and i LOVE it.

i hate block schedule. at my school we have regular schedule but last week we had block because the seniors were taking their finals early and needed the whole two hours. i am that type of person who cant focus on a specific subject/class for more than an hour. after the 1.5 hour mark i could not take it anymore!! LOL! thus i prefer regular MUCH more!

We have regular scheduling. 6 classes a day, 52-57 minutes per period (weird, huh?) with a 0 period at 7:02 (soon to be 6:46) if you want a seventh period orchestra which meets at 7 PM three nights a week. I dont like it. we never finsih anything in one day, and our discussions have to be so short to get everything in. Our Gov and econ AP class is blockish though. We have to take US gov and Macroecon, so we alternate gov and econ days so we get the same amount of days at both and it avoids a semester without one of the subjects before the AP. And wouldn't people with block scheduling have more time to do homework because you only have to go to four classes a day, so its only assignments for four classes a day? I would like to hear commentary on this. Do block scheduling people have more time to do their work?

I've only experienced regular scheduling and I like it. We have 8 periods a day for 50 minutes each with 6 minute passing periods. First wednesday of every month we have late arrival so the classes are shortened and we start an hour later.

I can't imagine having to learn an entire year's worth in one semester, and since gym class is required everyday in our state, I don't think a block schedule would work out very efficiently.

Back in middle school, we had 'block' schedule every wedsdays and thursdays........i absolutely LOVED block schedule because we had longer lunch.........

However, the disadvantage is..........we're stuck in a classroom for two straight hours......

to make it clear; i simply hate the word "schedule"; especially on the first day of school.

I agree, thesloc, I agree...

Stupid school signing me up to classes I didn't even sign up for, and I have to fix all the mess the school had made while a lot of classes are already full of kids. SCREW YOU! Scheduling conflicts!

our schedule goes: All six periods Mon, Tues, and Fri. Then on Wed you have the odd classes and Thursday the even.
