What's better for law school?

What would look better for law school? Graduating from CSULB with 2 years of Moot Court experience and 2 years of a judicial internship, or graduating from UCB or UCLA with potentially less extracurriculars? I'm currently at CSULB with a 4.0, but have applied to transfer and am hoping to eventually attend a top-tier law school and am not sure which way to go.

As long as you pull a top GPA, and do well on the LSAT, it’s all good.

Law schools don’t care how much law-related stuff you did as an undergrad; they expect to train you up from scratch. I don’t see the moot court and judicial internship being much help in law school admissions, but it probably won’t hurt, either. It’s generally true that with a top GPA and outstanding LSAT score it doesn’t matter so much where you did your undergrad. But suppose you end up deciding not to go to law school, or you try law school and decide you don’t like it and never finish? In that case I think the degree from UCB or UCLA will be more valuable. So if were me, that’s the direction I’d take.

Although LSAT and GPA are probably the most important factors (with the first more so than the second), extracurricular involvement/leadership, personal statements, recommendations, etc. are also significant. However, I don’t think there’s much value to specifically law-related extracurriculars. Or rather, there isn’t much weight given to them in the admissions process; most lawyers I’ve met, including very successful ones, will say that it’s perfectly possible to enter a T14 law school even if you intern as an analyst on Wall Street every summer. (Of course, admissions aside, the internships can be valuable to you, in order to determine whether or not you’re actually interested in the legal field.)

So I agree with bclintonk: In case law school isn’t the right choice for you, UCB and UCLA will be better options over all. Actually, I’d think they’re better options even if you do decide to attend law school.

Then again, I’m just a high school senior. :stuck_out_tongue: I can’t say I have firsthand knowledge of any of this. I recommend that you spend some time on the toplawschools forum ([Top Law Schools](Top Law Schools - Index page)), which I’ve been told are much more accurate than CC.
