What's better? Getting a Rec from an AP or a normal teacher depending on...

(This is about the common app by the way) If one got a letter of Rec from an AP teacher that placed an "X" in between the top 10 and 5 percent boxes (not in a distinct box, but in between the boxes.. on the line) or from a regular teacher who gave you a "Top student that I have seen in years"

My AP teacher in the letter said I was his top student with the top grades, with the highest cum. gpa in his class, but on the common app evaluation sheet, he placed me overall in between the "top 10 and 5 percent box.. on the line" while my regular physics teacher gave me almost all "top student I have seen in years and top 5 percent marks"

Which one should I use, or should I say... which one will look better? Obviously.. colleges know that an AP teacher won't grade as easily as a regular teacher right? His standards are so high despite the fact I was his top one :(

Advice please? Thanks

I was under the impression that the letter/written stuff counts more than the evaluation sheet, and the system we use to do rec's makes it so that the students never actually see the rec's.

how did you get to see your rec's?

How else? He showed me, and let me read it before putting it in an envelop. Courteous teachers should do that.

But, anyone else? AP or regular?

Admissions committees know that there is a difference in student caliber between AP and normal classes. Being mind-blowing in a normal class is not the same as being mind-blowing in an AP class. With that said, I don't think it will make much of a difference. Knowing what you have told me, I would go with the AP teacher.

Can't you use both?
