What's campus life like?

My son also is in his second year, and he’s not at all bored. There’s a lot of work, but he has loved many of his classes in the School of Art. He’s met people he enjoys, and they seem to find plenty of ways to amuse themselves, both in official campus activities and in things they organize themselves. There’s no way around the fact that winter in Rochester is cold and bleak, but winter doesn’t last all year.

My dd said they had a huge bbq in her on campus apt complex this weekend -involving water guns and balloons. I imagine drinking was involved, too. Was glad to hear it. She needs a little silly in her life…

My dd’s best friend goes to a huge state school and my dd has commented on how different it is. She’s amazed how much partying goes on, etc but then again, she’s commented on some kids who do that at RIT as well. Just isn’t as common at RIT, which does crack down on overt underage drinking. Most kids at RIT are too focused mid week for partying. The workload is pretty demanding - But that may be typical of the types of majors that are popular and also the 10 week qtr system. Weekends are the time for letting go. I know my dd was contemplating going on a wine tasting tour one weekend, sponsored by the school or alumni or something. They would bus the kids there. Sounded fun to me. Obviously, one had to be 21 to attend.

Weather can be bleak, so the kids are out celebrating the start of spring. It just arrives later in Rochester than in some other areas.
