It has probably been asked many times, but if any of you don't mind, can you tell me if Ivy leagues will prefer ACT or SAT? I did well on SAT II and ACT, but not on the SAT I. I have to send the SAT I if i send my SAT IIs. I can only take the SAT I again in January because I can't take it in Nov. and Dec.. Is it going to affect me if my ACT is high ,but SAT I is low?

No college has a preference; all colleges accept either score set. Colleges will also select the higher score. They know everyone has a down day.

There was a post a while ago that Connecticut College requests ACT scores but not SAT.
I checked their web site and this is true.
It's possible that other colleges have similar policies.

As of some time in 2007, every college/university in the US that required a standardized test and that previously had specified the SAT, now accepts both the SAT and the ACT. Until today, I hadn't heard that there might still be some only-ACT hold-outs (as suggested by gcf101).

In any case, if you send both sets of scores, the college/university will use the score that they consider to be higher because that is what they will report to USNWR for rankings, and they want to look as good as possible. So, you really don't have to worry.

Someone at uva said that they prefer the sat because they view it as a harder test

Someone? Who?

From the uva website:

What standardized tests do I have to take?
If you are applying for admission as a first-year student for 2007 enrollment, we require that you take the SAT I or the ACT.

Connecticut College doesn't require either the SAT or the ACT. It does require 2 SAT IIs. However, as many other colleges do, Conn College will accept the ACT instead of those SAT IIs.

That's not quite an "ACT only" situation. You don't have to take the ACT if you don't want to.
