What's considered a good GPA and rankk?

I have 7 B's on my transcript and a 3.85 unweighted. My rank is in the 50's. Is that good enough for competitive colleges (USC being my first choice)?

Hmm...well your GPA is pretty good overall. Wow you have 7 B's??? That's way too much! You should definitely try harder to get more A's that way it will look good in your high school transcript. However, your rank is not too high...try to get it into the top 10% rank.

don't listen to that. you have a great GPA. and i know that some of the USC's don't consider freshman year (which counts for some of your Bs?). also, having A's in everything else helps. grades like gym and health don't count as much either.

I like your question, in general what is a "great" and "good" weighted GPA, relative to other systems of grading?

iheartmusik: there's just one USC, I believe you're talking about UCs

spazattack: am I right in assuming you're a Senior now? In that case 7 Bs over 6 semesters isn't terrible, and it definitely depends on where and when you got them. Is there an upward trend? Did you get a B in an AP class?

What is your weighted GPA? Class rank in the 50s out of how many? ECs?

You need to give a bit more info in order to get valuable responses. But at first glance I'd say all hope is not lost.

dnt listen to asian girl. obviously someone who is insecure not to mention an A@#.

it depends on how many kids are in your class like everyone else said.

yeah and 7 B's won't kill you,...i know this is CC..but still

I have 385 kids in my class. My unweighted rank is in the 50s whereas my weighted rank is in the 30s. Yeah, I got my B's in my weighted classes. Is it okay if my upward trend began 2nd semester my junior year?

7 B's and you're still ranked so high? I have a 95%+ (4.0) with a million AP's and just 2 B's in freshman year in non-ap courses, and I'm ranked about the same possibly. (Then again my school has unweighted rank and a bunch of other factors. With weighting I would be likely in the top 5%)

Do you go to a private school?

yeah im gonna say that your school must be competitive
I only have a 3.4 UW with 4.0 W and ranked around 20-30 out of 600+.

You're in the exact same position I am although you have had much higher grades freshman and sophomore year... I had nearly all Bs in my honors class semester grades... I had an upward tend starting second semester junior year but i got a 2290 and a 34 and have a lot of ECs. I'd probably benefit from a response as well.

What I've heard is that colleges will look at your course load and take that into account and that 7 B's isnt too bad.

Is an A at your school 90-100 or 93-100? That has a significant impact on how colleges see your GPA.

I'm pretty sure he is talking about top 50 people in his school not percent.

An A would be a 90-100 in my school

Could you please explain what you mean by that? Our high school has the 93-100 = A, etc., grading scale - and I know my kids are going to have to compete with kids coming from 90-100 = A schools who would therefore have higher GPA's even though their percentage grades in their classes could be identical.
(How's that for a run on sentence?!? :D )

I am a sophmore in highschool andim freaking out about my gpa. I got B’s all frehsmen year. But this year for the first semester i have an A,B,B,C in an AP course. and B’s in 2 regualr classes.
