what's considered a "good" gpa?

I've had this question on my mind for a while.
does anyone have a definite idea of what a good gpa is?
Personally, my school calculates my grades out of 100, so can anyone explain what a good gpa out of 100, as well as out of 4.0 (whatever that means lol)

It depends.

For me a 1.0's kinda bad, 1.5's a bit on the low side, 2.0 is pretty decent, and 2.5's considered "good".

I'm sure you'd find some more opinions. Until then...

depends on your definition of good... anything below a 4.00 just doesnt cut it for some

4.0 is the only acceptable GPA...duh :)

lol cmon guys. i really dont know how it works. is the 4.0 from taking ur average out of 100 and dividing it by 25? or is there a grading system?

90-100 is a 4.0 in my school

thank you! sorry, my school does it out of 100, so when i heard of a gpa out of 4.0, i originally thought you had to divide by 25...obviously, that was wrong :P

so for people (like me) who have gpa's out of 100, 90-100 is pretty good then?

It depends on your school. For mine, um, without any weighting, an A=4, b=3, C=2, etc...

So if you have all A's (six courses, let's say), then...you have all 4's (no need for multiplication/division here) so it's automatically a 4.0.

Whether that's "good" or not depends on everyone.

depends on your school. My school is crazzy competitive so above a 90 is pretty good.... What's your ranking?

Really depends on your school, for example my friend has a GPA of 4.75/5.0 and 3.75/4.0, yet he is RANKED 15/800 in our class. I ****ed up my freshmen year and resulted in a gpa of 4.3/5.0 and 3.7/4.0 and got a class rank of 150/800. I'm bringing it up though, i'm owning it up in ap world history where as most people are making B- and C's, so i'll be in the top 10% by the end of the semester.

4.0 for someone who has extremely weak EC's and has no life
I think a GPA of 3.9+ is great for someone who doesn't have much a personality, whom joins a tons of clubs, drinks every ounce of ivy league admission kool-aid advice people spurt out, volunteers at places he has no interest in and does little to stand out,
3.8 for people who have great EC's.
3.75 for highly competitive athletes that stand out in admissions

my bad, it was presumptuous of me to ask what a "good" gpa is
it does depend on everyone. it prob depends on the school as well, b/c a 4.0 can mean one thing at a school, but another somewhere else...gah, still confused

3.6/4.0 is what I consider good.

We all can't be geniuses...

Word. Your rank is more important (while still not infallible, 'cause the student bodies at different schools are at varying levels of competitiveness) since it shows you did in the context of your class.
