What's considered an academic elective?

So I've seen that a bunch of colleges require that you take academic electives during high school for admission. What is considered an academic elective, and what are some examples of electives (other than underwater basket weaving thank you) that are not considered to be academic.

Usually depends on the school, but here are some academic ones we offer:

Comp. Draft/Design
Oral Communication
Finance
Business Math
Ethics of Law (don’t think they still do this)

some non academic ones would be your classic…

Ceramics
Foods & Nutrition
Woodworking
Drawing
Graphic Design

Does anyone know if colleges count classes like AP Computer Science and AP Art when they recalculate your core GPA?
