What's Considered "Competitive" ?

What's considered a competitive SAT or ACT score for selective colleges like Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, Colby, Skidmore, etc... ?

I know the average scores are available on the websites, but that's for admitted students (not necessarily those enrolled). For example, my friend applied to Amherst, didn't get in, and called to see why not. Her SAT was a 1930 and she asked if that was her downfall...they said that it wasn't...her SAT scores were fine. So, what's a competitive score?

Any score over 2100 will NOT keep you from getting into the best of the best. Don’t take my word for it – just look at the 50% averages for HPYSM admissions.

Plus I have never heard of a high score ALONE getting anyone into an Ivy.

So… I suggest the magic number is 2100.
