What's ECs are you CCers taking?

What's ECs are you CCers taking? .. Just wondering..

Well my list is too long/I will probably have to cut it down for college apps, but…

NAHS (Membership Officer, probably will become president senior year)

Model UN (Co-president)

Diller Teen Fellow (it is a competitive Jewish leadership program)

Coach at The First Tee (will have like 200 community service hours), also a member of their Junior Advisory Board, have planned several programs and been selected for various programs including me blogging a Senior PGA tournament and my posts being on their national website

Volunteer at The Friendship Circle (will have 200-300 hours of community service), also either editor or co-editor of their yearbook, have been recognized by the organization two of the past three years for number of volunteer hours

Teen Advisory Council for a local library, have planned programs and help raise awareness

Youth group (various board positions)

Jewish classes (no better way to describe it), will have completed three long term projects/earned a lot of credits in specific subjects

Various awards including a Scholastic Gold Key and some local things…

So yeah, basically the list is too long, oh well…

Wow. I’m always intimidated by such ridiculous lists. :(

Anyway, I plan on competing in my local FBLA chapter (I made it to Nationals last year), participating in my school’s math club, and probably getting in some community service hours as well.

Oh, and maybe I’ll apply for NHS… (though, does that even matter senior year?)

Indeed.

But uh, this year i’ve got…

JROTC. Too broad to explain, but i’m deputy commander (going to be group for most of the year), I do drill, most CGs, some parades, + classroom time. So by the end of the year, at least 400 hours (easily 10-15 hours a week). oh, my life, where did you go. ;~;

job @ teen center. I like kids.

IES, so that’ll be between now and Christmas break. (think Model UN, but team economics)

Uhhh…yeah. Should keep me busy.

and man, you haven’t lived until you’ve been with your drill team on a bus at 5AM on a cold december saturday. that’s living it up.

-Student Counsel
-JSA
-Speech and Debate
-Currents Events
-Volunteer Work for the American Heart Association
-JSA Fall and Winter Congress
-US Senate Page this Spring (if that counts)
-Tennis
-AIL-which helps children with mental disabilities

And some more clubs. School did not start yet and I did not see the club list :(

Random clubs other than the main list for the senior year just because.

Mathletes
Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement
Math tutoring program
Science Olympiad (Top 4: Circuit, Fermi, Designer Genes, Technical Problem)
Key Club

All clubs I love to do :)

Several things that aren’t the conventional EC’s…

-Volunteering at a kindergarten (planning on getting over 100 hours)
-Freestyle football half time show for NY Red Bulls
-Came second in a Chinese talent show (Harbin beer competition)

  • Won 10,000 RMB, approximately $2000 I think.
-Coached my middle school’s soccer team in China (wouldn’t include in transcript)
-Tutored 3 kids so far (1 in 7th grade, 2 in 3rd grade)
-Volunteering several hours every week at the temple and church close by.

Just to let you guys know what freestyle football is…

Of course this is some small stuff, for half time shows at Red Bull I have to do a lot more! Anyways, that ends my list so far, got 2 more years so I’ll try to do as much as possible

OH! Forgot to add, I got to meet several Barcelona players when they came on tour to China, by far one of the best experiences EVER! Got to play some soccer with them too, was incredible. Not sure if this all counts as EC’s…but still it’s something I’ve done outside of school that I’m proud of :D

Theatre, Colorguard, dance, and an online class.

^ You’re so lucky. I love football.

I don’t have much.

Varsity Cross Country
Junior Varsity Soccer (hopefully, my school is amazing and I’m a good player)
Key Club
National Honors Society
National German Honors Society

The last three are new for me this year, because high school starts in tenth and I’m a rising sophomore.

It’s really not much, sadly. :frowning: I’m serious about sports, though.

Oh, and I also play highly competitive club soccer. ^^

Awflapjackz: Not lucky man, my passion is soccer but I haven’t been able to play since I got shin splints in 9th grade. Been debating whether or not to join this year because I’ve been earning a lot at half time shows and am afraid that I might get shin splints again.

Btw, how do you guys show your EC’s to colleges? For example, I have several videos of my half time shows, so how exactly am I going to show that to them? May sound stupid to you guys but I’m very curious lol

Okay, who agrees with me when I say reading these lists makes me not want to apply to college… at all.

Excited for senior year, to be honest:

  • Science Olympiad: Captain/President (finally!)
  • Robotics: Uh, is there a title for undeclared leader?
  • School Newspaper: Managing Editor
  • Dance, Dance Teacher
  • Language Teacher
  • Science + Math Tutor
  • Lab Volunteer (not as mundane as it sounds, I promise!)
  • Theater
  • Orchestra

Not going to self-indulge and elaborate, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting back into the lab and on-stage this year, whether it be for dance or for the musical. Very glad I quit Key Club and NHS last year out of utter boredom.

@swizzle13: What’s your job? (just curious, because I know if I tried to juggle your schedule I’d definitely fall flat on my face from exhaustion)
