What's exciting about Princeton?

The question might sound negative, but I don't mean it that way. I'll be a senior next year and right in the middle of the process of college searching. Princeton has come up on my radar, and there are plenty of things that I like about it. Obviously, the excellent academics and Ivy League prestige are nice. Also, I like Princeton's sense of community and its location; I know I don't want to go to college in a big city.

The problem? I don't find myself getting very excited about it. Maybe there's only so much I can get from reading an official website, but it doesn't seem all that inspiring. Prestige and the other things I mentioned aren't enough to make me think, "Man, it would be freakin' SWEET to go to Princeton!". I want to feel like that, though. I know the best way would be to go visit, and I might do that, but I'm all the way on the west coast. What are some things beyond the simple "academic stats, location stats, and Ivy League prestige" that make you excited about Princeton?

Since I will be a freshman in the fall, I still don't know a lot of what will make me excited to go there.

But right now, what excites me is men's volleyball, the AMAZING dance groups that are at Princeton (BodyHype, diSiac...look them up on the princeton website...they're amazing), the singing groups, and the proximity to NYC and Philadelphia.

I have heard many people say that there is always something to do, something to see, or something to be a part of at Princeton. Which, with 5000 or so talented and smart undergrads, I would assume this is correct. :) Hope this helps.

Maybe you should just hang out at CC for a while and hope that this year's ED group is as cohesive and loving as the last. What made me most excited about Princeton was being here obessing about it with my ED family. And a visit to the campus wouldn't hurt, nobody can deny that it is breathtaking.

its really hard to explain. i had that trouble too, before I got in. im still not a student there, but the "feel" of the campus...its very green. its a "warm-feeling" place. im not sure where it was, but there was a survey taken, and Princeton students are the happiest in the ivy league. its always tough to explain why. maybe its just not as cold as cambridge, and safer than new haven?

Safer than cambridge too ;)

I always feel really superficial when people ask me what I like about Princeton and I always say the campus first. But it really does give you a really nice high feeling.

As others have said...amazing faculty and students, beautiful campus, funding for whatever gets you excited (study abroad, research, creative work, public service etc.), inspiring traditions, fun, and the overall amazing energy level. Here's a smattering of specifics, in no particular order:

Is there anything specific you're looking for?

I second what zante said. Princeton came up on my radar and after some research (and a financial aid estimate) I decided to apply early. But what got me really excited was meeting and bonding with the ED group here on CC and learning all kinds of great stuff about the university. Princeton is a school that offers such a unique experience; there are things there that are pretty much unique to Princeton (e.g. eating clubs, 2-year residential colleges, arch sings, junior paper, senior thesis, Cane Spree, Woody Woo, etc.). I love it. And the campus is gorgeous. But above all, the people. Judging by those I've had the privilege to talk to already, we're going to have an amazing four years together. So yeah...visit and talk to some current students and you'll quickly see why Princeton is as great as it is :)

Aww hug phil

I forgot Arch Sings! Ahhh I'm so excited for those; I'm such an acappella groupie.

hug back The good ol' days, oh how I long for thee!

And about arch sings, yeah, me too! I think we'll be like our own a capella pep squad, haha. I really can't wait for those. That article aparent put up got me excited all over again :)

a capella. hmmm that sounds like a new thing to try in college!
