I posted a thread below asking suggestion for school, either Berkeley or CMU Tepper.

I would have no hesistation if UCB's bad rumor going around in terms of its economic crisis. I heard the quality of school got worse because university fired professors and some professors moved to other colleges. Even more, I am concerning about the increased class size and other influences caused by economic hardship.

So I heard a rumor that UCB is gradually losing its position as the top univ. as time goes on. This drives me crazy. Do you think such economic hardship would be temporary?

And don't give me wrong. I still love Berkeley!

“Is Berkeley still a good school” questions like these seem so vague to me. If by “losing its position as top university” you mean US news ranking, then I don’t think anybody knows. There’s no doubt that Berkeley is having financial troubles, and will probably continue having such troubles unless something changes. Whether this would actually impact your experience here would depend on your major and what you’re looking for.

I have a question similar to this too.

If I were to major in Economics, which is a capped course, would it be harder for me to get in?

every country in the school is having financial troubles not just Berkeley. both Public and private’s cost of attendence has gone up 8k+ in the last couple of years

piggypoo: no. not at all. if you have a 3.0 you’re guaranteed in no matter what. and you really should have a 3.0 because econ prereqs are not that hard.
