Since the beginning of january my gibson status has been this:

Your decision is pending review
We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a final decision by April 1.

Just a few weeks?!? its almost march. Should i have heard by now? or am i just reading this message wrong. Are they saying they will get back to me in just a few weeks or does it mean they'll make the decision but i wont find out until april?

When they make the decision they will post it on Gibson right away. Then you will get a paper letter within a week or so.

I don’t quite understand your reaction. You seem to be selectively focusing on the possibilities part of the message and not reading the definitive part. “We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a final decision by April 1.”

As far as worrying, I guess that is unavoidable but try not to. There is nothing you can do at this stage unless Tulane is 100% your first choice. If you can say without reservation that you will attend if accepted no matter what, which means regardless of finances, then tell your admissions counselor that. I don’t mean if they don’t give you financial aid if you need it, of course. Telling your counselor you really want to go doesn’t affect your FA package. I just mean that if either you can afford it already, or if you are given a package that is close to what you expect based on your EFC then you would for sure attend Tulane. If that is the case, then you should be letting Tulane know that. For the OP, that doesn’t seem to be the case given the other posts he has made. You are already into a couple of schools you like, so why the anxiety? Relax.

For liveandlearn, it looks like Tulane is a higher priority for you. As I say, call your admissions counselor and let them know how much you want Tulane and why. Make sure you give them reasons that are not cliche, which are things like “Because it is such a good school” or “It is in New Orleans”. They want to see that you have some feel for what really goes on at the school and why you think that makes it the right one for you and you the one for them. Follow that up with an e-mail.

@Fallenchemist, is that the case for all schools? If you demonstrate strong interest to the counselors before the admission decisions come out, can it affect the outcome? Or will it just annoy the counselors?

@ukfcra… that’s what it said on my portal unlike literally 4 days ago until it gave me a decision… I was starting to worry too. Good luck!

mjsk - I would say yes except for the most elite. HYPS schools are so selective I am not sure that demonstrating interest really makes much difference to them. They just assume anyone that applies really wants to go there if accepted. Below that level, though, I think it really does. The counselors won’t be annoyed unless you go overboard. But a single message, maybe two fairly spaced, that gives them an understanding of why you really want to go to their school can be a huge plus. But it has to be honest, they can smell BS.

fallenchemist - can you expand on the whole letter of interest thing? I got deferred from EA, and because my school essentially *****ed me over with transcripts (didn’t get sent anywhere because my counselor is a moron, so now I’m down to like 3 schools that will consider me), Tulane is now my #1. actually now that I think about it, it was prob my #1 before as well. anyways, if I were to be accepted, I would attend “regardless of finances” without hesitation. do you think shooting em an email saying this would really make a difference? stats are 3.5w/2120 sat/10 ap’s so idk exactly where I stand with the RD applicant pool.

I absolutely think it makes a difference. I know admissions is getting even tighter because of the numbers involved, so telling Tulane that you absolutely would attend if accepted would be important. I suppose mentioning that finances are not an issue is fine, I mean that is reality that being full pay is a plus. Especially since your stats appear to be very much in Tulane’s range. I would write to your admissions counselor right away, decisions will be finalized very soon. The letter doesn’t have to be elaborate, just a straightforward statement like you mention and why it is #1 on your list. Again, not trivial reasons like “because it is a great school” or “because New Orleans is so fun” or even “because I want to help rebuild New Orleans”, although that last is OK if you can elaborate a little with specifics. But try and tell them a reason or reasons that show you really know what the school has to offer.

fallenchemist - sent the letter 5 days ago and just received word that I was accepted! After not hearing anything for months, I can’t help but think that that letter may have influenced my decision. Thanks so much!

siska - That’s wonderful! Very happy it worked out for you. My bill is in the mail. LOL, just glad you are able to attend a school as wonderful as Tulane. Now go have the best 4 years you can. Study hard, get involved, and have fun!
