I'm taking a short summer class at a college in the Bay Area and North California. What are some interesting places that I can go visit or spend time? Also, how far is stanford from berkeley and would it be ok to visit them both in a day? I'm also interested in places to go or hang out with friends since i'm gonna be there awhile and i don't know any body. thanks.

head shops.

you could visit both in one day i guess..but that would be one loong day with a lot of driving. so there isnt much point because you wouldnt really have time to do anything at either place before you would leave for the other.

and there are toonnns of things to do around the bay area, and in san francisco especially. it depends on what you are interested in and how much you want to pay. there are things like tours of the city and alcatraz (my graduation gift from my sister...it was awesome! i learned things i never knew even though ive lived here my entire life). you can rent bikes (either regular, or those really low to the ground ones, or four person or whatever) for ten dollars an hour and ride all over the city and golden gate park. or you can rent a row boat or pedal boat and ride around stow lake (its tons of fun). theres also things like hookah bars and clubs and laser tag and theres amazing restaurants and shopping and tours (ghost walks and haunted tours!) and all kinds of stuff.

you can pm me if you have questions or whatever. the bay area is the best place ever and san francisco is the greatest city on earth (im biased in know, but really..).

Go to the beach boardwalk in Santa Cruz. It's a must.

But frankly, there's not much to do in the Bay Area. If you've been to SF once or twice, you've done most everything. Or at least, that's how I've felt after living there for 18 yrs.

Oh, but if you've never had dim sum, you HAVE to get some. My favorite place I think is in Santa Clara (the DeAnza exit of 85, I believe. I'm not positive of the name). There's a great one in SF, too, called The Palace or something like that. I've found that a lot of other places don't have dim sum, and it's one of the things I miss most about home.

get stupid get hyphy ghostride da whip and thizz yadadamean

DOWNTOWN SF.
Chinatowna is fun. Japan town has good food, but is almost microscopic. If you like museums, or scientific stuff, there are some good museums in SF. The Asian art Museum is probably the most famous asian museum in america. For science stuff, the academy of science is good, as well as the exploratorium.
But overall, ide say the downtown area and chinatown are really great.

oooh and go to the de young museum. they just re-did it and its awesome. also, go to the moma. its downtown so there are lots of fun things around it.

i second the good headshops, and great ganja if you're into that, norcal grass is up there with BC and the Dam.

There is a lot to do in SF if you like clubs and what not, I'd recommended Pop Scene, but its not for everyone.

Well if you like anime and stuff, i was just informed that the Manga event/exhibit thingie is going on at the Asian art museum

Great America/Six Flags amusement parks.

Muir Woods are gorgeous - I swear you've never seen trees like that before. Definitely check that out.

^^^oh for sure!!! i went there soo many times when i was a little kid!!

thanks alot guys. Sounds like there are lots of things to do.

I'm probably not gonna do a lot of shoppings but if it's interesting, i'd go around just to see what's it's like. Renting a boat tour + ghostwalks sounds good. Where exactly is that place?

There's a Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, which is about 45 min from Stanford. It supposedly has ghosts there. Should be an interesting visit

the winchester mystery house is siiiick.
