What's grade inflation?

yea im wondering what grade inflation is. is weighting considered grade inflation? im wondering if my school experiences this "grade inflation". thanks.

Grade inflation usually means that large numbers of students have A or B grades without doing A or B quality work. A telltale sign of this is if more than 80% of an AP class has an A average, but no one gets a corresponding grade of 5 on the AP exam. This also happens when schools have 20 or 30 valedictorians, all with 4 averages, in a school that is smaller than a single class of 900.
Weighting is not really grade inflation unless all courses are being weighted regardless of level of difficulty.
Most schools, at all levels (primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary) in the US have grade inflation. At some it is very bad; at others it is minor.

thanks, kman. that was a very good explanation.
