What's great/not-so-great about these schools?

So I'm a senior, and I'm basically deciding between four schools (I've gotten in to 8, but I have it down to the following):

-Case Western Reserve University
-Carnegie Mellon University
-University of Southern California
-Washington University in St. Louis

I am planning to major in engineering (biomedical or mechanical) and minor in something non-engineering... probably art.

Can anyone who's a student at one of these schools- or a parent of a student- tell me what's awesome (or what's not-so-awesome) about your school?

bump 10char

Good:
They’re all good colleges
Bad:
-Case Western Reserve sounds like a type of whiskey
-If you go to Washington you will always have to say “in St. Louis” but people will still get confused
-An arrogant annoying kid from my graduating class is going to CMU
-People in the southeast might confuse USC with U of South Carolina

mephits0 thanks for the post… haha i’ve actually only had to clarify “which” usc (southern california vs. south carolilna) like twice.

Case Western Reserve University is great.

Great things:

Case Western is astoundingly computerized. When you are waiting for a shuttle bus, a digital display shows how long til the next bus comes. You can go on line and find an open washer or dryer for your laundry, and see when your clothes are done. And more…

If you have a couple of classes mid day away from the dorm and cafeteria area, there is a kiosk where you can pick up a bag lunch with a meal plan swipe.

If you like pro sports, there is an RTA station nearby that takes you right down to Tower City in a flash so you can go to Indians games, Cavs games, Browns games.

If you are musical, you have access to resources from the Cleveland Institute of Music. If you like music, you are close to Severance Hall (for the Cleveland Orchestra) or The Grog Shop in Coventry (for all sorts of interesting and amazing music).

The newer dorms are amazing. Like luxury apartments.

If your roommate agrees, you can have bunny rabbit as a pet in your dorm room.

A Not Great Thing:

You probably can’t get a room in one of the cool new dorms when you are a freshman. The juniors and seniors get them.

But that’s okay, you can still have a pet bunny.

lol i really like mephist’s post

for washington university in st. louis…you can always say washu instead of all that and people will get it :)

No, actually most people still won’t.

Anyways, if I were you I’d go to USC becasue it’s the coolest school.

WashU. Super-happy kids, super-awesome programs all around.

MidwestMom2Kids_ - wow, that’s so cool!

USC is the most well rounded on there by far.

molliegym -
I toured with my son. He was not impressed with the CWRU “pet policy” but the bunny idea sold me! :D

Yeah, the bunny idea sounds pretty awesome!

as far as places to live—WASHU is gorgeous and an amazing school! and USC is great! i love LA and loved the campus–even though the surrounding areas are kinda sketch. Theyre far more recognized than the other two…i would NEVER go to case western or carnegie. i know people who go to the last two and are very unhappy. if you want to live somewhere nice with attractive & fun people in a great college atmosphere id say USC or Wash U (and i’m in college now so i know)

yeah, i hear carnegiekids work a LOT & don’t really have time for fun.
isn’t usc mainly known for it’s communications programs though?
i’m pretty sure wuistl [or whatever the acronym is, haha] is counted as very prestigious in the real world.

USCTexan and smarteenangel101- yea, that’s one of my concerns about Case and CMU… supposedly, tons of work and not much fun. I’m visiting both of them next week, so hopefully I can meet some current students and ask about that.

bump? 10char

bumpppp 10char

id go to washu forshureeeeee

yeah case and cmu are engineering all the ways…and science and wutnot

Definitely USC. LA > St. Louis.

Carnegie Mellon has the best overall reputation in engineering, although Case Western has a strong biomedical engineering program. However, Wash U has strong majors across the board, a warm and fun atmosphere, a beautiful campus and really nice kids. Also, it is very easy to move in and out of schools at Wash U. in the event you change your engineering plans, and very easy to double major.
