What's happened?

@nico.campbell glad it worked out well. Its important to look at the buckets and get some inkling of how ADCOMS decide because the buckets are the same for colleges.

@Nico.campbell It’s important to look at the buckets or pieces of the pie ADCOMS use to pigeon hole students for admissions, because it is similar in elite college admissions.

@54321soca multiple acceptances are typically just like multiple Ivy league accepts: URMs, geodiversity, athletes and and development. However, a new category that is popping up: gay/transgender.

^^that actually fits under diversity, but you are right gay has now broadened to LGBTQA+

Sometimes, the AO’s are just good at their jobs - bringing out kids personalities in the discussion. Students have also felt like they had great interviews and then been shocked at the rejection later. I think taking notes on who to advocate for later is common  - that’s what they do.

We found out the hard way that it is harder to get into a BS in your own state. The schools (in our state) are too far to drive daily 2 ways (DS has 2 younger siblings so I can’t sit around in the BS town all day -that would be 5+ hours on the road to go back and forth!). But, the schools get plenty of students from the home state (ie, Day students and some legacies or athletes), that they want the remainder of BS students to come from less represented states…Geodiversity.

DS genuinely wanted 2 of the schools in our state. But 1 Reject and one WL of those; the other we didn’t like at the visit. Clearly, he was more interested in those schools than the students that had those simply at the bottom of their list of 8 schools.

I think it’s more competitive for kids from the northeast, as well as kids from overrepresented countries like China.

@preppedparent re diversity and LGBTQA+ is actually a little different in my opinion. Under represented minorities and gay etc are subsets of diversity surely but still very distinct groups. When schools market their % of non white students that doesn’t include the other subset. I’ve noticed significant overlap in black and gay in some places.

I do choir, Tae Kwon Do, and swimming. Thank you all for your feedback!

@PhotographerMom I am not offended at all. If anything that was what I needed thank you very much.

Not one school has included stats on # of physically challenged students. I think hat schools should be more inclusive of students with physical disabilities.
