What's in a name

I usually call Penn…well “Penn” (no U) why? Because the sweatshirts and the endzones on the football field say so. It is obvious that most people who attend are not fans of the “U” because it is simply incorrect. In that case, is the website url incorrect also? (www.upenn.edu) or is “UPenn” a name that is simply not popular? I have heard teachers and peers refer to it as “UPenn” as well…perhaps they are just out of the loop. On the topic of names, my father attended Penn in the mid 70’s, and I have heard both of my parents refer to the university as “U of P”. Since I have yet to see that name used anywhere else, does anyone still use it or is it simply dated and a mark of my parents’ age? :-P.

Penn?
UPenn?
U of P?

no matter what it is called. it is still awesome.

yeah, this thread has no real purpose.

The correct short name of the university is Penn. It's irrelevant that the website is 'incorrect'. The website is a website, not the name of the university. If you go to the website, you will see a big Penn on the top-left corner, enough to indicate that UPenn is not how the university refers to itself.

Yeah, I see...no where really official is the name "UPenn" used. Don't worry, I get it, "Penn" is correct! Too bad so many people use the "U"

Simply stated, the "upenn" in the website url is used as an abbreviation while Penn is the actual nickname.
