whats in a name?

on a scale of 1-10, how important is the NAME of the school at which you are graduating from as it applies to grad school and post bachelor career options?

the reason i ask is because i recently transfered from western illinois university (more liberal arts college) to university of wisconsin-madison. costs aside (4800 compared to 17000 in favor of WIU), i liked being able to take classes simply for the joy of taking them. my GPA was good at WIU and i was on track for a 4 year double major.

at WIU i could take classes such as philosophy or a random music class because it looked interesting. i cant do this at UW because i cannot afford to waste credits on classes that i dont need as it appears i will be there for atleast 3 years as it is.

is transferring back to where i started from a bad idea?
not to mention the social aspect-everyone at WIU was so chilled out and relaxed, in my limited experience at UW its sorta hit or miss (however its only been 2 weeks and i havent met many people).

so what is your guys opinion?

It depends. For example, if you want to apply to medical schools they place heavy emphasis on GPA and care little about which undergraduate institution you went to.

Also, transferring is tough. I would probably give it a little more time. Two weeks is hardly enough time to get adjusted and friends take a while to make. Best of luck to you.

its not like im going anywhere this semester...i am currently double majoring in economics and exercise science

the quality of education at UW will be much better, however my quality of life may not.....nor will the 100k+ in debt i will leave school with.

someone has to be able to help. when it comes to throwing college names out there you guys are great but when im asking for college advice no one wants to say anything!

dont go back!

Wisconsin is about 8 steps above Western Illinois in terms of national reputation and therefore, grad school prospects.
