My son was just accepted there and is very happy, but he (and his folks) don't really know much about it. What's it like? What's it like during the week, and on weekends? Is it near the town? Are students happy? We do plan on visiting but would like to hear from anyone who would care to contribute.

UAlbany is pretty good school. Probably what it's most know for is being a huge party school. Academics are pretty good too, UAlbany has several nationally ranked programs. Kids mainly stay on campus, not a lot of commuters, there's a large Long Island population, about 40%. If you go by Princeton reviews rankings UAlbany students are extremely unhappy. I disagree, everyone I know up there loves it, I'm going to be there in the fall. UAlbany students get free public transportation with college I.D. it's about ten minutes from downtown Albany. Dorms are pretty shot I have to admit. You might be late in the game, but I'd try to get your son in project renaissance, it's a living/learning program. Your guaranteed a suite. I'm doing honors housing which also gets a suite.

hope that helps

Graduated SUNYA in 1979. Probably when it was in its heyday. Now, I hear that it is okay but the quality of the academics has gone down. Still, dollar for dollar, probably a decent educ. in NYS.

if your not from LI go somewhere else
