what's it like at UCM?

I'm deciding between UCM and another school for engineering. I just want to know CURRENT info about UCM and the atmosphere, what is there to do for fun, etc. I find a lot from like 2010, but I want to know what its like now, from current students. Also, what's the average time it takes to get a baccalaureate degree there?

Pros and cons from a current student: http://williamssfc.■■■■■■■■■■/post/82708440269/what-are-the-pros-and-cons-of-uc-merced</a>
she has also answered several other questions that may help you.
also, the tour guide I had when I visited last week said that the average amount of years it takes to get a bac is about 4.5. But I don’t see why you can’t get it in 4

I am not a current student at UC Merced. I actually go to another school, but Merced is my home town. It is a great city, it even has a lake! There is stuff you can do around town. There are tons of great Mexican food restaurants, so if that is your thing, Merced is a great place to be. Besides being close to Yosemite, Merced itself has some pretty nice places. There is a good amount of shopping available (Kohls, JC Penney, Target, Game Stop, Hobby Lobby, Best Buy, a music store, Barnes and Nobles, antique stores). Housing is really cheap compared to other UC areas. It is definitely not a college town though. It is a little impoverished in some places, but the people are nice. There are some bars, classy restaurants downtown, 2 movie theaters, a nickel arcade, several parks where you can destress or take a scenic walk, several Starbucks where you can hang out and do homework. Overall, it is nice place to be if you are into a chill but variable atmosphere.
