What's the campus like? The weather? The students? Is it a friendly environment? Are the classes too big? Do professors teach? Anything else that you think incoming freshmen would want to know...I know absolutely nothing about UW except that it's in Seattle and the Huskies.

It’s all a matter of opinion of course but for me personally, I love it.

The campus is the most beautiful one I’ve been to- the quad, red square, rainier vista, drumheller fountain- all great elements that make the campus really cool in my opinion.

Whether you like the weather depends on who you are. If you like clouds, near constant drizzle, and cool temperatures, you will love Seattle. If you like 80 degree sunny days year round you are going to the wrong place. I like the weather for me personally. Many find it depressing at times but I find it rather serene.

Students? I don’t know, there’s a hell of a lot of people who go to this school there’s pretty much bound to be people of all kinds. In general though I find a lot of people to be pretty friendly. That’s not to say you will make friends automatically if you don’t know anybody but I think a lot of people are open to the idea of meeting new people.

Class size varies, many introductory classes have 100 + people in them just because the university is so big. my introductory computer programming class had over 400. It’s just how it is for some of the early classes. Of course there are still small classes to be found in some of the less popular departments and in higher level courses. Also the thing about most big lectures is that they are split up in to sections of 20 people or so that meet with a TA once or twice a week to get the smaller class feel as well. Lectures are taught by a professor and the professor usually has some TA’s that conduct the smaller sections so you get a little of both.

Obviously a lot of college is a matter of taste and if you’re serious about the school you should come visit and see for yourself.

Do you, or any other current/ past UW student, know anything about the student apartments and how awesome, or not, they are? Because I’m going to most likely be moving in with a friend and we would have to live in… Radford Court (I think)… because he’s not going to be a student…

And I’ve heard a lot about the “Seattle Freeze” and I was curious as to how accurate the idea really is…

The “Freeze” has been debated to death, please don’t open that can of worms.

(But as a life-long resident I must admit I’m a believer)

First I’ve heard of this Seattle Freeze.

[The Seattle Times: Pacific Northwest Magazine : Our Social Disease](http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2005/0213/cover.html)

Fortunately, there are lots of other transplants.

Don’t mind that freeze crap. If you want to be social and make friends you will, if you don’t you won’t- just like most places.

Wow… hah. I pass by dozens of people a day, if I don’t smile and invite every one of them to a BBQ then I guess I’m cold and part of this Seattle Freeze.

I like UW.

are the classes hard?

Depends on the class.

The Freeze is as real as you make it.

Otherwise…well, it depends who you hang out with. I’m one of those sketchy Ave-types who lives in an 2-room apartment a few blocks from campus with 5 other people, most of whom I’ve seen naked. I smell like booze all the time and I was watching A Clockwork Orange when all the other kids my age were watching Pokemon: The Movie.

I’m one of the whitest people I know (despite having middle-eastern parents) yet I listen to MF Doom more than any other artist, except maybe Daft Punk, whose tracks I occasionally help remix with my friend who’s a DJ. I also work at my friend’s mom’s bakery and hit on every >18 girl who comes in, regardless of whether or not she’s with someone.

That said, I’m keeping a high GPA in mechanical engineering and love playing baseball.

If I found my niche, so will you.

You’re the man, Revonu.

Sarcasm or not, I thank you :)

I don’t really feel the Freeze at all here. ha.

Also, regarding large class sizes, it has a lot to do with who your professor is. I took Psych 101 last quarter with Dr. King, a 400 person lecture course with no quiz sections, but my professor was great. He was really engaging and it easily became one of my favorite classes. So, it really is what you make of it.

It’s a large school, so you need to take more of an initiative. Mind you, registration sucks. But other than that, I honestly love it.
