i’ve read some negative reviews about FAU, like the people are rude inside campus or outside. professors not that good. and a high rate of transferring because of those reasons. people recommended FIU or UCF. but i really liked the campus of FAU and the environment there. i’m really confused. help?
I didn’t have that experience at all. You’ll find the same diversity and ratio of nice people to jerks as you will "in the real world’ of South Florida, although it may be a culture shock for students from the midwest where the people are more courteous/helpful than they are here. If you’ve met jerks on campus, you just don’t become friends with them. You find people you like. You can’t paint an entire student body with one brush.
Although some professors are better researchers than they are teachers, or in the cases of labs or freshman-level classes they’re grad students learning how to teach as a “trial by fire”, for the most part the professors are very good. Some professors you connect with more than others, and some professors get an undeservedly bad rap because whiners got bad grades and are being passive aggressive about it by dogging their name.
Do people transfer? Sure. People from every school transfer, for various reasons, but people aren’t abandoning FAU like rats off a sinking ship. Don’t get the wrong impression there.
But everybody’s looking for something different. Some students wanted to get into the flagships but didn’t have the grades, so they have to “prove themselves” and then transfer after two years. That’s not FAU’s fault, it’s the student’s fault for not getting into their top college straight out of school. Other students wanted to move away for college and end up realizing they’d rather be closer to home. Some students just want to go to the school with the biggest enrollment possible (UCF) because high school students are overly concerned about being involved in the biggest thing and then regret it when they realize how many people they’re competing with to register for classes every semester.
So there are a lot of reasons why people transfer and none of that may apply to you.
