AP Micro / Macro (2) - would this count as a year of “Econ”?
Honors Pre-Calculus (1)
AP Computer Science (1)
I would blitzkrieg through Mircro / Macro, take my time on pre calc with in depth notes, and in depth notes with AP Comp Sci since I want to learn how to code.
Actually, you are taking four different classes over the summer (Macro and Micro are two different classes; FLVS Economics itself is only a half-credit class, so it’s more than a traditional economics credit), all of which are either AP or Honors classes. And as someone who took AP US Government, AP Macroeconomics, and Pre-Calculus Honors (1 semester) the summer between junior and senior year, it’s definitely not the most pleasant experience. Due to my becoming very ill over the summer, leading the courses to extend into senior year (which was very demanding with multiple other APs + Dual Enrollment), I dragged out the courses for much longer than I should (almost twice as long as the recommended time to complete Gov/Macro), but thankfully, my instructors were very understanding. The best thing I can say is that the classes you are choosing are much better than most FLVS classes in that they don’t have anywhere near as much busywork.
Also, you won’t be able to “blitzkrieg” through AP Economics. Even using Barron’s and Princeton Review and spending much, much longer than I should have with the course, I barely scraped by with a 92 in AP Macro.
I’d strongly recommend that you limit yourself to no more than two classes for this summer at the most. Honestly, if I could redo everything, I would have saved my summer completely and taken AP Macro and AP Gov at my physical HS.
@r2v2018 I think you also replied to my other discussion, thanks for the thoughtful feedback.
I have a couple questions for you:
- You said you “barely scraped by with a 92”; i’m curious how many daily hours you spent on FLVS during this period since you also stated you spent much longer than intended? Was this due to studying too much for it, or not scheduling yourself efficiently? I was planning on scheduling it out so I do 1hr morn noon and at night, while still having much more time to do other things I enjoy (14hrs of daylight - 2-3hrs = 11-12hrs to do whatever I want). - Also assuming I work more or less on days if I travel somewhere
- I don't have the option of extending my FLVS beyond summer because I would die from the demanding schedule next year, therefore I'm going to have to finish (WITH A)
- Was macro economics really that hard (from what you said it seems like you studied extensively and only pulled off a low tier A) -Who says I can't blitzkrieg while maintaining a high grade? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
ALSO ANYONE READING THIS TAKEN AP Computer Science? I’ve looked at online notes and it looks extremely interesting / useful. What’s it like - teacher DBA’s, Labs, quizzes and tests (retakes or no).
The ridiculous amount of time it took for me to finish Macro was mostly due to me not being able to find time for it on top of my other classes. Apparently, if what others have told me is correct, in the Spring of last year, I was suffering from momentary psychosis and I decided it would be a fantastic idea to sign up for 5 APs + Spanish IV Honors + a total of 24 credit hours of dual enrollment spread over the course of two semesters AND I became a member of my school’s student government. I’m gonna be honest and say that I devoted 1-2 hours a week on AP Macro on some weeks, if that. That probably didn’t help my grade in the course, but like I said before, my instructor, thankfully, was really laid back and didn’t care unless I turned something in on a somewhat regular basis (around every ten days). When I DID study, though, I went all out with multiple study books and even took practice exams, and I still found the material was somewhat hard to grasp at times. The test questions are almost never memorization based; they all require a strong understanding of cause-and-effect relationships of different economic concepts (such and such does something to interest rates, which does something to investment spending, which does something to aggregate demand, which does something to price level and output which might lead to the adoption of such and such fiscal policy) I’m sure you would do a lot better if you worked consistently at it, but it’s still something to definitely consider.
Think about a normal class. you have 45 min/day for 5 days a week X a school year. Also you are assumed to read, study, and do homework for another 1-5 hours/week. Now take that and put itinto how ever many weeks the summer class is. That will tell you how many hours/day you are expected to work.
@r2v2018 I had no clue a medical condition like that existed, are you better / have you found treatment? I recommend some TLoZ BotW and a cup of hot nesquik. I have too, at times, felt hopelessly solipsistic (wayy too much math/science), but I always bring myself back to Earth. I will definitely consider the advice from your journey, thank you!
I am bumping this up because I still would like some information on AP Computer Science: What’s it like - teacher DBA’s, Labs, quizzes and tests (retakes or no)?
Bump
What’s it like taking AP Gov AP Micro and Precalc all in the same summer? (2.5 months)
Bump ^^^ Anyone have any knowledge on taking AP Gov, AP Micro, and Precalc online all at once, or 2/3 at once?
