I just got my housing decision today. It turns out, I am going to be living in the Unit 1 Double in a Mini Suite. Now, my question is, what exactly is a mini suite? What is it composed of?

Also, can you guys please tell me what each unit is like? Like unit 1, 2, and 3. How are each like socially, etc. from what you have heard. Thanks.

are you a freshman this year? they told me that mini suites are not for freshmen. if you are i am really going to be angry at them for lying to me

No, I am a transfer student in Junior standing. If what you say is true though, that mini suites are not for freshmen, then I would be very happy. Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to living with a freshy.

generally, more non-freshmen live in the mini suites, but there are quite a few exceptions. from what i've seen, they tend to group together the freshmen who live in the mini suites together, at least in the same room.

i've only been into some of my friends' mini suites in the units, and assuming most rooms in unit 1 and 2 are similar, the layouts had:
-front entry door leading to 3 more doors
-entering through the front, on the right is a bathroom door (shower, toilet, sink)
-on the left is one room (double or triple)
-straight ahead is another room (double or triple)

other rooms may vary, but that's how the ones i have seen were arranged.

I seem to be in the same predicament as you. I put all the apartments as my first preferences, but ended up getting a Double Room in a Mini-Suite in Unit 1. I'm not excited about living in a dorm again, especially for $14,000 -.-

Right now I'm deciding on whether to live in an off-campus apartment or suck it up and take the offer. What have you decided?

A double in unit 1 mini suite is very hard to get so you guys should be grateful about it. It's probably one of the best dorm option at Berkeley

they are the cleanest and newest of all the dorms.
they are close to campus.
minisuites are a bit less social than reg doubles and triples at the units, but that goes with not having freshman.

to add to the op's question, what's living in a suite like? i got a "triple room in a suite" in unit 2, and i can't find any information on what that means exactly on the website. how is it different from a minisuite?

also, the corresponding move-in date for that would be the 18th, right?
